CNN's Brown doesn't rise to top as anchor (Gratutitous Aaron Brown Bashing! Plus: Old-Skool Journos)

On paper, CNN ''Newsnight'' anchor Aaron Brown has some good qualities. He is bright, even cerebral. He has a smooth set of pipes that are easy on the ears. He often asks smart, layered questions that go beyond the obvious. But as was the case in the days after the attacks on Sept. 11, the war on Iraq is again proving that he is just too studied, too enigmatic, and frankly, too weird, to be anchor material.

How to fix the Aaron Brown problem: Give him a co-anchor. How about Lisa McRee?

Give him a shovel across the head.
That's what he needs.

Aaron Brown is Gary Shandling without the sense of humor.

I can only watch that man when they are showing a full screen of war footage.

Funny, this is an article about the war news and anchors. Notice Fox isn't even mentioned, though all the networks and CNN are. Still treating Fox like a little temporary "glitch in the matrix" rather than the number 1 cable news channel.

"...a flustered Brown could only utter this mysterious passage: ''On we go. General Clark, apparently it's going to be a night.''

I'm thinking that the "pregnant pauses" mask nothing more than slow-wittedness.

I've tried to watch CNN a couple times since the war started, but I can't.
I detest this guy.

Soporific and pompous, he annoys me on such a visceral level that I can't even explain it fully.

I don't get to see CNN often--I'm not sure if I've even seen Aaron Brown.

He's a pompous, posing tool. Geezus, if I can't stand his demeanor then I'm sure-as-hell not going to watch him.

Who cares about CNN in this war, anyway. I get a lot more and better information from Fox News Channel and MSNBC, to say the least.

Or, it could be that the Fox anchors don't give anyone a reason to gripe.

Aaron Brown is the most boring anchor on right now, IMO. I tried to watch some of his commentary the other night during a commercial on Fox and it almost put me to sleep. Too monotone, zzzzzzzzzzzz!

On Sunday, after a rather heated exchange with an Al-Jazeera journalist, a flustered Brown could only utter this mysterious passage: ''On we go. General Clark, apparently it's going to be a night.''

Aaron was flustered because he couldn't understand why his co-worker at Al-Jazeera was giving him a hard time.

Aaron Brown IS too contrived. His swarmy introductions, his statue-like half smile and his constant chin-touching is way too Clinton-like for me.

I am just waiting for him to bite his lip.

I just told my wife last night that I couldn not stand to look at the guy, or listen to him!

I've found that he is the number 1 sleep aid in America. if I turn on CNN and he is on, my eyelids start drooping almost immediately.

But what I really want to know is the name of the redheaded chick with the amazing eyes. Just for, um, informational purposes.
