CNN's Brown doesn't rise to top as anchor (Gratutitous Aaron Brown Bashing! Plus: Old-Skool Journos)

On paper, CNN ''Newsnight'' anchor Aaron Brown has some good qualities. He is bright, even cerebral. He has a smooth set of pipes that are easy on the ears. He often asks smart, layered questions that go beyond the obvious. But as was the case in the days after the attacks on Sept. 11, the war on Iraq is again proving that he is just too studied, too enigmatic, and frankly, too weird, to be anchor material.

I'm thinking that the "pregnant pauses" mask nothing more than slow-wittedness.

No, trust me on this. He's a lot of things, but a dullard isn't one of them. If anything, it's his brain self-censoring his desperate desire to rip apart the person on the other end.

After a long career at CNN, Arnett mysteriously departed in 1999 in what some viewed as punishment for narrating that network's ill-fated -- and later retracted -- 1998 investigative story that alleged the United States used nerve gas to kill defectors in Laos in 1970.

No mystery there. CNN published an irresponsible, defamatory hit piece and Peeetah Arnett's sole defense was, "Hey, I don't verify the facts of what I report -- I'm just the face guy."

I know tree stumps that have more journalistic integrity than Arnett.

By curious coincidence, I complained to CNN about Aaron Brown just yesterday. Suggested that they pay him by the word so that he could starve to death. I said I was sick of watching him trying to be the living incarnation of Rodin's 'The Thinker'. (It is Rodin, isn't it? :)

"Clark is the antidote to Brown..."

LOL! This is the purpose of the article: to resurrect Clark.

He's Aaron's sockpuppet. He's a brownnoser of the highest level of sycophancy and shows it every night to the hundred(?)s of loyal DNC-donating viewers of CNN.

Nobody is going to attack you. But keep in mind that CNN did not hire him because he was a warm, caring person OFF camera.

Why would you ever watch CNN (pic posted by constitution_day)

Thanks for the props, but I saved that picture after I saw it here on FR many months ago.
I did *TRY* to watch CNN a few nights ago, but could not stomach A.Brown.

Also I must admit I've been watching MSNBC a bit.
Meanwhile, Mrs. CD was watching the Bachelor last night (GAG).

How dare you defend Aaron Brown! You need to be banned from this forum and this country for that matter. What a sicko! (only kidding)

We should start a thread of the reporters we like for the war.

It will be VERY short.

"he annoys me on such a visceral level that I can't even explain it fully. "

Wolf Blitzer does that for me. Man did he look pissed when the war broke out.

THIS is why I love FR so much... no other news source will find his old newspaper carrier! ;^) Thanks for the first-hand account of his personality (and welcome to FR!). I'm sure he's a great guy. However, he's not a top-tier anchor, which is the point of the article.
