Illinois Shotgun-Ban Bill Passes Senate Committee

Senate Bill 1195 (SB 1195), sponsored by Illinois Democratic Sen. Antonio Munoz, bans any shotgun that has a bore of .50 caliber or more. It outlaws 10, 12, 16, 20 and 28 gauge shotguns and even muzzleloaders. The bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of 6-4 and now awaits a vote on the Senate floor.
The U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance (USSA) says even if the clause imposing bore restrictions is fixed, SB 1195 bans any shotgun that has threads inside the end of the barrel. The USSA says that means any shotgun with choke tubes would be illegal. The bill also bans shotguns with a magazine capacity of more than four shells. Illinois citizens would have 90 days to turn in their guns to authorities or face prosecution.
The USSA is encouraging sportsmen to contact their senators and ask them to oppose SB 1195. To find the name of your legislator, call (217) 782-8223 or click on the "Legislative Action Center" link near the bottom, right-hand corner of the USSA Web site, www.ussportsmen.org.

Anything about this bill is bad, it also outlaws all semi autos & mags over 10 rounds, not to mention several other senate & house bills mayor daley has submitted this year
there have been a few of us spreading word about them, I, for one will move my engineering / gunsmith business to Indiana if they pass
The Illinois State Rifle Association has been pretty much useless in their efforts in the past 8 - 10 years, this year is no exception
To: zook
And while you're at it, buy a lot of shotguns now! It's really an anti assault weapon bill they added other stuff to to outlaw everything, anything that is outlawed is confiscated or you are guilty of a class 2 felony with mandatory jail time
To: cherry_bomb88
oh man, that sounds terrible

the democratic, communistic, fascist nazi senator. how the heck did this dodo get elected anyway? he is completely violating the 2nd amendment which clearly states that "civilians have the right to keep and bear arms". somebody smack him with a US history book. and where do i sign for this petition?

I work for a company that employs a lobbyist, one of the best in the state...I sent him an email and asked him what his take was on this...this current make up of the house & senate in Illinois is NOT friendly to any issues that are even remotely right...this is an extremely left leaning legislature.
I'll be writing to my reps, but they hear from me alot....pleeeeeaseee, everyone, don't be lazy on writing on this issue.

besides small manufacturers / gunsmiths like me, DSA, Springfield Armory, Rock Island Arms, Armalite, and several other well known companies will have to move out of state.
There is a proposed amendment to exempt "large" manufacturers, but that would still put most average gunsmiths out of business

I've been putting off buying a gun for the house, but, ummmm, I think that will be my next purchase. Even if it's just a simple shotgun.

I think they are asking you to actually write your representives... I have a book here on how the new districts divide up....or you can go to the illinois site.
And he got elected because the dems got to draw the redistricting lines this year and they drew it so it looked like a damn jigsaw puzzle. I mean, they carved around current reps and senators at a really funky draw. And we have to live with this for the next 10 years until it's our turn to redraw. :o(

Where is the NRA when we need them???? Has anyone written to Mr. Heston to tell him we need him HERE in our state??? I mean, if it happens here, other states will start using us as a testing ground...it will spread like a cancer.

As far as I know, NRA - ILA got involved last week, ISRA is useless, they didn't even inform NRA of these bills (according to the girl I talkes to 2 weeks ago at NRA - ILA)
My State Senator is Frank Watson, the Republican leader, his office has had a lot of calls about it & he is working against it (at least that is what they say), but the Dems have the majority

Fight fire with fire. Send all of us interested FReepers Illinios voters registration cards so we can get our absentee ballots in time to help. Heh, yeah! It is, after all, Illinois. Which, of course, includes Chicago, the home of the "vote early, vote often" concept pioneered by Mayor Daly. I suppose they might not even notice...

I guess I'll have to take a copy of this to my ex husband when I take the girls for a visit tomorrow. He'll FREAK and he's got a bunch of stupid dixiecrat relatives that probably voted for some of these fools. (dixiecrat=a democrat who is prolife, prochurch, profamily, progun but still votes democrat b/c either the union ties or their daddy did, and their daddy before him did, or they are white trash welfare receipiants)

That is why I will move my business to Terre Haute, IN if this passes
Besides, Indiana has Concealed Carry, and only Divine Intervention will bring that to Illinois

*raises hand frantically* oh oh oh pick me, I know the answer, pick me pleeeeeease!!!
1) George Ryan was a democrat in Republican clothing and turned off alot of fence voters and so therefore they voted democratic
2) The dems got to redraw the districts this year and surprise surprise, they did a REALLY bad job
3) Someone got apathetic (hmmm, NRA or maybe it was us, did we think it wouldn't happen in Illinois because we are such a big hunting state?)
Did I get it right??????

I'm From Springfield, we are having a support the troops rally on Saturday March 29 at the Old State Capitol from 1 to 3 PM.
We have an anti-gun house, mostly anti-gun governor, the Senate is the only thing that's close, if it passes the Senate it's as good as law.
Phone Southern and Central Illinois Democrats outside of Chicago, Vince Demuzio is from Carlinville but he voted for the safe neighborhood act 3 years ago. Go after suburban republican senators such as Kirk Dillard who voted yes in committee as well, must give those Senators as much to think about as possible.
My Senator Larry BOmke will not support this and told me so.
To: TheEaglehasLanded
Tell Larry I said hi! He's an AWESOME right=winger...one of my clients/members to my organization and if he said he won't vote for it, he won't vote for it!

What the hell happened to Illinois? I grew up in SW Indiana, 15 miles from Illinois. I used to hunt and fish the bottom areas of the Wabash River on the Illinois side of the river. I especially enjoyed hunting doves with my .410 Ithaca. Couldn't hunt doves in Indiana.
Now it sounds like California or Washington at times. Extreme kookville. Is there something polluting the drinking water, inbreeding?
To: bigfootbob
no, we have too many Dixiecrats (see previous post)...people that for all intents and purposes should be right wing, but they are too damn STUPID to realize that the democrats won't screw them over.

Begging Hunters, sportsman and collectors to vote the anti's out of office because it was only a matter of time before they went after their shotguns.
The real question is why don't the Illinois gunowners vote for Freedom?

Your on the right track.
I voted to ban saturday night specials, because they were cheap, dangerous, and too easy for criminals to get.
And I didn't have one, so I didn't care.
I just have my good old shotgun.
I voted to ban assault rifles because they are dangerous and no citizen needs military arms.
And I didn't have one, so I didn't care.
Illinois Shotgun-Ban Bill Passes Senate Committee
WHAT???
How did that happen???
I just have my good old shotgun.

There is absolutely no excuse for this bill beyond the socialist agenda of complete disarmament. Sounds like Illinois is about to become a very hot place to be. I fear in the end there will be a lot of vacancies in law enforcement and public office if this bill passes the Illinois Senate.
If they want your firearms so badly, sounds like you have no choice but to let them have it.
