Pardon me, Mr Tyler, but I couldn't help but wonder. Are you a Democrat?
To: gcruse
I wouldn't presume to hang a yellow ribbon (we won't mourn our way to victory, anyway. Fly the flag!) Displaying Yellow Ribbons is NOT a sign of mourning. It is a statement saying we are supporting our troops, particularly the POW's and that we are standing with them and looking forward to their safe return! Also, they are not to be displayed in place of the Stars and Stripes. They are to be displayed in addtion to our grand old flag.

If everybody felt compelled to festoon city property as an expression of solidarity with something or other, our towns would look like Mexican bazaars. Something or other in this case being the American men and women protecting your ass on that chair.
Tell that to a veteran.

WE AS CITIZENS OWN ALL GOVERNMENT PROPERTY. PAID FOR WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS AS ARE ALL SALARIES AND SERVICES. ALL YOUR BUILDINGS ARE BELONG TO US.Precisely my point, and as soon as the war is over, they will be putting little rainbows all over the place and claiming the precedent was set. Never underestimate these slugs. I say put your own up on your own property and you never have to give these jerks an opening.
BTW, we citizens don't own any government property despite the oft cited contention that we do. The government owns it, not us.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the pink ribbon in support of eradicating breast cancer? So, eradicating breast cancer is on the same level as Naziism?

Yet support of our troops in time of war is something or other.
For that matter Scott Ritter is a veteran.

You don't have the right to put ribbons and flags on property you do not own without permission. Would you want it any other way?

put up a flag. much better than that jimmy carter c-a-r-pola.
Or just put them up anyway, since its the messsage not the medium. I've been keeping my neighborhood clean of anti Bush/ pro saddam crap. I dont' bother anyones yard, but I live in a foo foo restaurant/boutique neighborhood, and on the main drag everything is fair game.

Town Major BANS all public displays of Patriotism! An incomplete & misleading headline. Prohibition only applies to public property, as part of a longstanding prohibition of private expression of political messages on public property. Individuals can display what they like on their own property.
Shows how laws limiting speech for "reasonable" reasons can have unreasonable consequences. (Which then points to the problem of unConstitutional laws, and how pervasive and insidious they are.)
To: PhilDragoo
OK, then no anti-war demos allowed either?
To: gcruse
In Albuquerque last hour the mayor and city council had a rally in support of the troops.
The little New Jersey town suppresses support of the troops.
Troops die to defend the little town's mayor and council's right to be asinine beyond words.
I'm proud of Albuquerque.

Would you want it any other way? They would have an entire thread about it if the anti war people were putting up their nonsense. Saying they don't want that trash up on government property. And they would be right. Now they are blinded by faux patriotism.

So, eradicating breast cancer is on the same level as Naziism? Well, yeah. Just put it all together - they both have cloth...things, that convey a message to the viewer. How much more equivalent can you get? Jeez...
And if that doesn't make sense to you, just take a handy heavy object, like a brick or something, and whack yourself in the head until your intelligence is lowered to the point that you're eligible to become mayor of Fieldsboro, NJ.

You are confusing the point. The point is, the town would not have given permission under any condition, they are against the war and equate yellow ribbons to Nazi Flags.
So..you really have no point at all.
To: Bigg Red
This is stupid. Our county has a permanent War Veterans Memorial and an old Cannon on the town square. There are just a few trees left without yellow ribbons. What is going on in New Jersey?

Interesting. Could you explain the government ownership further? Does it differ from FED/STATE?
To: vannrox
tiny Fieldsboro from Route 130, Where is this thiny ratthole. can't find it on the map, but I am shure our military can.

It was permitted by the city. If the NJ city council votes to decorate city property, that's great.
It is not great to write "Support the troops" with spray paint on all the underpasses which is just another way of showing patriotism, nor is it great to put
up ribbons and flags on city property without permission.
