Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle says his criticism of President Bush's war policies toward Iraq 48 hours before U.S. troops went into combat was "ill-timed," but he did not retract them.
Republican leaders yesterday demanded he apologize to Mr. Bush, U.S. servicemen and women and to his constituents.

The $64 million dollar question, is will the South Dakota voters remember this when they walk into polls next year? While I think most Democrats are vile human beings, this rotten little turd is the lowest of the low.

Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle says his criticism of President Bush's war policies toward Iraq 48 hours before U.S. troops went into combat was "ill-timed," but he did not retract them. Reminds me of the classic Billy Tubbs story when the fans went beserk about the officiating during an Oklahoma home basketball game and were throwing things on the court. The refs told Tubbs to calm the crowd or he'd get a technical. He obliged them by saying to the effect, "No matter how bad the officiating is, you can't throw stuff on the court."

I'm disappointed, saddened, no, deeply troubled that the Daschole is now attempting to weazel it's way out of this with such a weak explanation.
But I do enjoy watching Tommy eat his words.

"I don't think the timing of those comments was necessarily the best; I think they could have been better timed," Mr. Daschle said Thursday. "I had no idea when I said them what the timing of the military operation would be." Daschle should have stop after these three words: "I don't think."

Li'l Tom is a pissant obstructionist, bitter to the core. I just hope he keeps shooting from his little pie hole and Charley Rangel continues to make an ass of himself, accusing our military of purposely bombing women and children. Military personnel and their families will vote as a further 'firing for effect'. Maybe some democrat voters will figure it all out by 2004.

I just spent two years in South Dakota, and you may find this amazing, but it is a very, very patriotic state. I lived there during 9-11, and I saw it.
They have a large population of veterans...the state gave more sodiers to WWII, per capita, of any state in the Union.
It is very possible that this is his death rattle.
Added to that, there very well may be a large sympathy vote for Thune. He took his questionable defeat with alot of grace and aplomb, and he is very well liked. He didn't get over 70% in his statewide run for Congress for nothing.
Just thought I would give you a cheery thought to end the day. ;-)

I think it's time Tom 'Puff' Daschle becomes 'concerned' about his reelection posibilities. It would be great to have him and his creepy followers 'saddened' by the results of the next election.

Dash-Hole tried to put the entire blame for the diplomatic failure of all this at the feet of President Bush.
He refuses to acknowledge the Iraqi threat to our security and safety via WMD and direct links with terrorist organizations, except during Clinton's reign.
He refuses to acknowledge the complicity of France, Germany and Russia in providing illeagal weapons to this brutal regime. More than likely the leaders of these countries are benefiting directly from these transactions. They have much to hide. How else can their complete intransigence to any diplomatic solution be explained?
He refuses to acknowledge the corruption and extreme anti-Americanism of the UN and the farce that the weapons inspections were.
He has sided with our enemies for his political purposes and should be humiliated in the worst possible way.
This worm is despicable.
To: kattracks
He should also concede that his criticism was total BS. It would have been uncalled for no matter what the timing, because it was disingenuous and intellectually bankrupt. War became inevitable not because Bush failed at diplomacy, but because Chirac sabotaged the diplomacy by promising to veto any resolution no matter what. But this is the way Democrats operate. They've made the timing of
D@sshole's statement the issue, when the real issue is that the statement is a lie. And by apologizing for the timing,
D@sshole is distracting attention from his real offense, and implying that his statement is legitimate.

Just thought I would give you a cheery thought to end the day. Too "early" for that...I went to bed minutes before (it was about 2:30 a.m. here when you posted). However, you sure knew how to start out my day on a great note! Thanks for sharing....I didn't know about the large number of vets (nor about their giving to soldiers--this is truly awesome)...I did have an idea of SD's patriotism....it's in the mid-western area, where there's far, far less liberalism entrenched; I know the state generally goes for Republican presidents; however, they also send to Congress, liberals (Mondale comes to mind, besides Daschole) (it's almost like they're dual personalities--that part's odd).
I visited Pierre several years ago in the summer and thought I'd die----OMG, the humidity. However did you live in SD for 2 years!!??
Hope you have a terrific weekend. And thanks very much for your post....I enjoy hearing about the people from that area; I used to live in western Colorado--I think the states in the middle of our country really is the foundation/roots; the peripheral states I do not mean to sound as if they are at all less important---but you only see pockets of the patriotism/morality/conservativism that is widespread in the middle of our country. (Look at that red/blue map of Bush/Gore....I think its due in large part to their being less of the "diversity" PC influence. The left coast/east cost states send more liberal socialists to congress as a whole which then influences their entire state's laws/PC agendas.....).
I surely do hope SD ousts Daschole next year.....wow....I'm now believing it's very possible (first time).

Thanks! There may be hope for South Dakota yet! . . .
Mr. Daschle's sudden turnaround followed a firestorm back home, where many South Dakotans reacted with anger and outrage after hearing his comments.
"Tom Daschle was out of line," the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls said in an editorial two days after he attacked Mr. Bush in a political speech before the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union.
"If Daschle was trying to make political points, he failed. He only solidified opposition to Democrats and himself as one of their chief spokesmen," the newspaper said.

Mr. Daschle won re-election in 1998 with 62 percent of the vote. Considering the massive voter fraud that helped Tim Johnson win a 500 vote victory, and the GOP doing nothing about it, I suspect Daschle will be easily re-elected.
During the Johnson "re-election", the DNC ran its get out the vote operations from withing polling centers, send lawyers around to intimidate poll workers to accept fardualent votes, and threatened to sue those to didn't do as they said. The RNC did NOTHING in response.

Daschle has NEVER been well-liked here in western South Dakota. I now believe that the rest of the state (and nation) see through his smarmy, self-indulging, left-hanging, vindictive, girly-boy, persona. Liberal Minneapolis has had a big influence on the voters of Sioux Falls...where he gets most of his support...however, at the recent Victory rally in Mpls., signs were seen saying "Free South Dakota!". Methinks the tide is turning.

I agree. He may try to pull another Tim Johnson (D-S.D. congresscritter) and give winter coats to the Indian Reservation children right before the election. That, in itself is not fraud, just pandering. Many of us here in South Dakota are still convinced that Thune lost because of voter fraud and illegal voter registration. The next election should be exciting.
To: Rushmore Rocks; sweetliberty
The next election should be exciting. What we need are people like you who volunteer to be poll watchers.....with cameras/recording devices, etc., in groups, to WATCH. This intimidates the RATS to no end. The thread: FReepers Against Voter Fraud, put together by sweetliberty (who's a wealth of information, herself, about their tactics) gives lots of information about what FReepers did last November, catching their intimadation tactics, recording it, and their FLAGRANT violations of voting laws at the polls.....sweetliberty has an interesting story to tell, too, about what happened in Arkansas when Billy the pig was enlisting rats to do things wrong at the polls (as caught by a Freeper spy who infiltrated).
