Both at the USNA, where I've worked, and the USMMA, where I graduated had a fair share of American Brahmins. The reporter is smoking something if he/she doesn't believe that their are no elites in the officer corp.
The serivce, IMHO, is probably one of the best ways for a poor kid to make it to at least the middle class if not further.

"The Merchant Marine Academy in particular..." Class of '98. :)
Many people don't even know it exists. I'm very glad I went there.
Can you send me a link about the Chinese military?

The MMA is a hell of a deal... Pick whatever branch of the military you want, and I think they even get the option of serving out their terms in reserve status, don't they? As long as you work in the maritime sector? I sure as hell wish I would've applied.
What sort of ChiCom military link do you want? Much of my information comes first-hand from Chinese who have experience with the military. There's a very limited amount of interesting information on their official sites.

But Charlie Rangel told us the military was 100% minorities?
