AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - Large letters reading "Bring Me Men" that critics say became a symbol of a male-dominated culture at the Air Force Academy have been removed from a stone arch that incoming cadets march beneath.
The letters were taken down Friday under a directive that emerged from an Air Force investigation of a sexual assault scandal at the academy.
Five leaders at the academy have been reassigned as the Air Force responds to complaints that female cadets' reports of sexual assaults haven't been taken seriously and that some of those who complained were punished. At least 56 female cadets reported being sexually assaulted over the past 10 years.
Since 1964, each incoming class of cadets has marched through the stone portal that bore the slogan "Bring Me Men" in 2-foot-high, brushed aluminum letters.
The phrase comes from an 1894 poem by Sam Walter Foss extolling the expansionist spirit of the country. The first two lines of "The Coming American" read: "Bring me men to match my mountains, Bring me men to match my plains."
Advisers had urged removal of the sign in 1999 but academy officials said then that it would stay because it was part of the academy's history and tradition.

A question for the complainants: Would any one of you volunteer to replace the lady supply clerk now held as a POW by the Iraq Army?
If not, shut up and get outta' here.

Don't be ridiculous. This has nothing to do with disrespect of women.
To: annyokie
Thank you. I like that one.
To: MonroeDNA
I was in the Air Force too, back when women supported the men, not tried to replace them. If they want equality that bad, maybe we should have a men's Air Force and a women's Air Force. Then the lady Amazons can prove their equality.

very true, but seems that there was no "chivalry" at the AF Academy....
anyone forget that it was the female cadet who was reprimanded for "fraternization" after she complained of sexual assault from an upper classmen?
being "PC" and being a gentleman are two differant things.....

Advisers had urged removal of the sign in 1999 but academy officials said then that it would stay because it was part of the academy's history and tradition."History and tradition" are the prime targets in the culture war. The Democrats and the scumbag liberal PC crowd, whose very goal is the destruction of traditional America and its families, have won another battle.
Congratulations on your surrender, Air Force - - even the French must be laughing.

My brother-in-law graduated the Academy in the mid-seventies. They were the last class that had no women in it. Their rings were supposed to have LCWB engraved on them, but the Air Force nixed that. If you can't figure what LCWB means, freepmail me.

Sure it does. My question points to the biggest single problem women in the military have, and that is the selection of women officers.
DOD seems hell bent for election to select women whose only motivation is careerism.
I watched the TV partial interviews with some of the complainants. Frankly, it embarrassed me to see that these were the caliber of the women AFA sought to recruit.
The general upset about getting her fanny brushed is typical of the crew. She should have never been allowed to be in charge of other human beings. Then she wouldn't have been around to be offended by a clumsy advance - and you just know she was more upset about the style than the substance, eh?!

It's obvious that the criteria should be different than the one they now have in place. My own preference is for running all their candidates through Infantry Basic and AIT. Then we'll talk!

The feminization of the military continues apace and also play into cultural advances that encourage the homo lobby. Make men like women (wusses) and women like men (angry b------).
America will not recover until the women ('hand that rocks the cradle rocks the nation') decide that achieving motherhood and caring for children is more important than the damn 'career.' For that they will need support from like-minded women and their husbands. Big PC corporations are undercutting this by giving higher priority to hiring women into mgt. than men. So men have a hard time making a salary that can support a family. I'm seeing women in management now with house husbands. When a man isn't the provider/protector other issues arise as well.

Cherry -
You make a good point that some of the male cadets were not exactly gentlemen, & I am being kind when I say that.
Let me remind you, however, that the female cadet in question was drinking with a group of male cadets after lights out and playing strip poker.
Do I think this means she was "aksing for it"? No, I do not. Only a pig would think that.
Do I think her actions prior to the assault were contrary to the rules? Yes, without question they were.
