OTTAWA -- Canada is losing millions of dollars from corporate America because of the federal government's anti-war stand.
Anthony Pollard, president of the Hotel Association of Canada, said the U.S. cancellations explain, in no uncertain terms, they are not coming here because we are not backing the George W. Bush government.
"Very clearly, they say it's because of our lack of support for America. They have told us outright, 'We're not coming because of this,' " Pollard said.
Bus tour groups have also started to cancel trips, leaving Pollard worried the business trend will flow to the tourist market.
With 239,000 employees working in hotels across the country, Pollard is encouraging staff to write the federal government raising concerns.
"The chronic and sad fact is that we could be capitalizing on the U.S. visitor when they would typically wish to travel here as opposed to Europe and other overseas markets in times of and following global conflict," his letter to the government reads.
"Instead it appears as if we will miss this opportunity entirely."
Last year, more than 16 million Americans crossed the border to the north, pouring $8.5 billion into the Canadian economy.
Pollard also blames chronic anti-American rhetoric from politicians for straining relations.

Pollard also blames chronic anti-American rhetoric from politicians for straining relations. It's the chronic cheap shots from Chretain and his Laborite government that's causing the backlash. It's okay if the Canadian govt. doesn't want to send troops to Iraq, but Chretain & goons could act like allies and SHUT UP with the nasty comments.

My family has traveled across Canada nearly every summer for the past 10 years on our way to northern Maine and back. We tried to make as few stops as possible in Quebec Province, since we never really felt welcome in that part of Canada. We will never travel across any part of Canada again.

Western Canada, most particularly Alberta, is a whole different bunch. The problem is that Western Canadians are out-numbered, and therefore out-voted by Eastern Canadians. Pro-America rallies have been held in Western Canada, but they're trapped with a liberal government. It's sort of like the eight years we suffered under Clinton. He was voted in twice, to the great pain of conservatives. And we have to gear up for the 2004 election, with Gore, Hillary, etc. hovering like vultures, or else we won't be any better off.

People with disposable income and businesses looking to do business have a right to choose how to spend that $$. Why wouldn't they refuse to "reward" an outspoken critic of our country? Makes perfect sense to me.
In fact, the whole anti-American Axis of Weasels and their groupies are going to see just how dependant they really on American business and tourist dollars. (I can hear them now: "Wait, come back! I didn't really mean it when I said I hated you! Come on, give me another chance! Please??")

My Dear Canadian neighbors. I wish I could say that I do not hold the good citizens of Canada responsible for their government's actions, but I do.
After all, Canada over the years, has chose to decrease their once wonderful military to a paltry 85,000 soldiers. You felt comfortable doing this because you knew we would always be there for you. You chose to spend your revenues on socialistic programs instead of self-defence, knowing that your good neighbors to the south would run to your aid if something ever happened.
Until you replace your government with a government that more closely mirrors the basic ideals of the Canadian citizens, you are just as much part of the problem as your feckless leaders.
Until the Canadian citizens become as empassioned as their American neighbors, we will continue to see a decline in the goodwill between the countries.
I for one, will continue to support those companies of those countries that are part of the coalition of the willing. England, Spain, Italy and Poland are just a few.
Unfortunately, many good Canadian companies and individuals will be hurt in the process, but until the funds that flow upwords to the corrupt officials is cut off, your government officials will continue with their anti-American and anti-Canadian rhetoric and actions.
The sooner you replace the liberals in your government, the sooner we can resume our close ties.

That statement is more appropriate for Eurosocialism, the modern version of communism. Your nation is infested with it east of Thunder Bay. Perhaps you should spend a greater effort cleaning up your own house before worrying about what I say or do.
"You could use a big burly 'right-winger' following you into the boards."
That I am very concerned about. Not so much as a cross check, but I might catch SARS because your nation refuses to tighten immigration controls. I guess if another 3000 of our citizens or yours die, then maybe PM Yellow Stain might actually do something, but I doubt it. Grow up and get a life dude. WE endured the slams for 8 years. You can't handle it for 8 days, especially when your nation's government is 100% in the wrong, and the citizens and business owners are going to pay the price in the long term.

They will continue to be out of power because their "leadership" like yours made a serious miscalculation in attacking the President right before and during a time of war. The huddled masses, known as the middle, looks very unfavorably on this, and will remember this as we begin the front against Iran after this phase of the war is over.
"I'm also not the first Canadian that you've informed that "FR is an AMERICAN BOARD, using AMERICAN BANDWIDTH."......have you been sanctioned by the good folks at Freerepublic to cheerfully inform us of this?......If not, SHUT YOUR TRAP."
I don't have to. I live here. I have contributed as an anonymous donor to Jim Robinson's fine works. What have you done other than bash American patriotism? If you read this current thread you will see you are in a distinct minority. I've just invited you to move on if you don't like what you are reading. I don't believe you'll be allowed to own that "proverbial" gun to hold to your head soon up there to keep you here, so why are you mouthing off against the Patriotic American movement? Like we tell the anti-war scum; love it or leave it. I'll run my trap until I feel I need to shut up. You have been invited to do the same; just preferably using Canadian socialist provided bandwidth.
"You also seem to take issue with another comment I made......."Keep your disease to yourself".
If it's not a disease, tell me what it is. This is a great conservative news forum.....I find other's in here to be free of what you seem to have. You carry a contagion and seem intent to spread it......I betcha it won't 'fly'."
It's a disease called having given 20 years of service to my nation. A disease of groaning when former Canaidan servicemen who I know tell me they are ashamed of their nation. A disease known as loving their country and taking strong offense when foreigners think they know what is best for our way of life and our citizens. We have never surrendered that and you can not shame us into it just because your nation has. I'll take my disease over that of lazy socialism. We're not perfect. You're nation is drifting into the darkness of Eurosocialism and will alienate the one ally to your south for a generation to come if it is not stopped.
"You know nothing about my life.....but I know enough about yours, to surmise how ignorant and bitter you are."
Personally, I could care less about your life or your nation. Your nation has betrayed us during a time of war which threatens freedom worldwide. We made a mistake in 1939 by sitting on the sidelines. Now, because we learned from that mistake, we have a right to be bitter because your nation, above all, should have retained that lesson.
"You're spending your time sparring with conservative Canadians, that support the US in a conservative forum.....How bright is that? Try invading canoe.ca......there's a huge Liberal anti-American contigent there that you can 'moon' on a daily basis."
I have only "attacked" those ignorant individuals who have attacked me. I have attacked the nation of Canada and it's leadership much like I have that of Russia, Germany, Belgium , France and Mexico also. Your nation has shamed itself in our eyes. If you can not accept that, then perhaps you should move on to "canoe.ca" whatever that is. I have better things to do with my time than to waste it on a liberal board. Perhaps you should focus on the problems in your nation INSTEAD of coming on to an AMERICAN board to whine about YOUR governments failings. We're solving our problems politically, economically (although not fast enough for me) and militarily. As usual, the socialists that rule your nation are playing the "me too" role to try to scalp some contracts from the nation we liberate; without dropping one drop of blood or sweat from your politicians or military.

"erroneous claims are open to challenge" Erroneous claims ? As a former Westerner you're more daring because you lived there for 15 years or because the large part of population is composed of former Easterners who daringly moved west?
Westerners that dared to become the first socialists or Westerners that , each and everyone, has dared to benefit from Ottawa Equalization payments ?
. Ontario can't say that. Ontario has always paid in , never taken out. Daring, might just have something to do with that fact but I doubt you'd understand that. On the other hand Toronto must have something going for it the West doesn't. You're there.

You sure have time to write long letters. Like I said......you rant and rant.
As far as Turkey was concerned....you blindly rode the Turkish bandwagon gnawing on those who opposed you until when?
"I've been assailing Turkey for two weeks now for their decision".
Pretty impressive....two whole weeks! Looks to me that you 'switched horses' pretty quick, and you're srtictly the victim of popular opinion. Nothing smart about that at all......and I hold you in that esteem.
As for myself, I've warned in this forum......"FRIENDS DON'T BLEED FRIENDS" since the start of this year, and rather articulately pointed out that Turkey was not a reliable ally to the US. That's original conviction......something you're incapable of.
What you do, is rant and rant.....quite unlike most others in this forum. I've read enough of your posts to be remarkably unimpressed.
The rest of your post to me is pretty dumb and loaded with baseless accusation.
Let's work with it.
"Francomisconception".....nice word, not a Franc.
"Bash American patriotism".....another good one.....surely you're not an attorney. Read my posts.....Absolutely nothing but pro-American, except for the odd stain like yourself.
"French whine".....nope, bourbon or rye with ice.
A small collection of your childish ranting, name-calling and lonely life for the record.
Keep your head up.....hear the wind whistle through.
To: Snowyman
"As a former Westerner you're more daring because you lived there for 15 years, or because the large part of population is composed of former Easterners who daringly moved west?"
B....Easterner who daringly moved west. Not clear enough for you?
"Westerners that dared to become the first socialists or Westerners that, each and everyone, has dared to benefit from Ottawa Equalization payments."
Don't Equalization payments sound socialist to you? They do to me.....the West can do better without a Canada that includes Quebec and Ontario pleasing policies.
"On the other hand Toronto must have something going for it the West doesn't."
It's called home and family.....perhaps you relate.
"I doubt if you know what real daring is."
Might 12 years of driving through BC as an independant.....and selling a busload of insurance, mutual funds, RIF's and annuities from Osoyoos to Fort Nelson and meeting thousands of strangers qualify as daring, let alone enterprising?........You think buying "stocker cattle" is some kind of intellectual credification?
So what facts have failed me?.....You never said.
