Don't forget Arnett was fired from CNN because of the "Tailwind" story he propogated about the military that was blatantly false.

The fact that CNN (!) felt compelled to fire him shows how bad his bias was.

Great post, Great Letter...

I'm going to busy tonight writing all the emails I have to...

I already have sent 3 lengthy ones stating my outrage.

My husband just got home, and I told him just WAIT till you see/hear what Arnett said. I warned him he'll have to brace himself because he's gonna be so furious.

I'm emailing your post to all my friends and relatives to get on the email bandwagon too.

Arnett should lose his job at the minimum for what damage he's done....

It's disgraceful beyond belief!

To me he has spit on the Coalition Troops fighting for freedom and kicked dirt in the faces of the dead & tortured bodies of murdered troops and murdered Journalists too.

Here's mine:

Dear Sirs:

I am given to understand you are executives at NBC. If not please forgive this email.

If you are, then I for one, and all the friends and family I know, will no longer be watching NBC or MSNBC so long as Peter Arnett is a part of your news team.

His recent interview with Iraqi TV, in which he made editorial comments to them about the failure of our warplan and growing opposition to President Bush is tantamount to giving aid and comfort to an enemy, and were simply way over the line of good journalism, or any other kind of journalism. On top of that, they were ludicrous.

The war is a little over a week old - hardly enough time has passed to judge the "failure" of the war plan. Maybe, just maybe the regime was as dangerous and threatening as the allies claimed? Or maybe every plan has weaknesses and need to be judged not by how well all the assumptions held up in the battlefield, but rather by how well the leadership responded to the changes in the battlefield.

I for one never thought it would be easy as the MEDIA has been trying to paint it, nor am I appalled that it has proven to be a bitter fight. A deadly regime is being dismantled, and will do whatever it takes to cling to power. But it will not survive - unless Peter Arnett and other traitors get their way.

ANd the truth is that the American public supports the war by a huge margin. Most of the protesters are just trying to relive the '60's or get their faces on TV. None of them have as much courage in their body as a real soldier, putting his life on the line, has in his middle finger.

Anyway, fire Peter Arnett if you care about your customer base. He's a traitor who hates his own country. Let him serve in battle with his new comrades, the corrupt and murderous regime of Saddam Hussein. Then let's see what he thinks of our warplan.

Arnett and used an interview with a retired General who was in a nursing home to claim that we had used nerve gas on our own troops. The interview was totally bogus, the man recanted everything and said that he didn't understand what was being asked. The story had been splashed across every newspaper and magazine (Time was in on the story) and was big news, until it was debunked on the first day. I think that Herb Meadows and I were on the CNN board when the story first broke and immediately labeled it a lie. It was all down hill for Arnett after that.

TOTALLY good idea. I'm on it. These leftists don't like FOX news because they would RATHER we were losing the war, so deep is their hatred of America. Arnett's a sterling example. At the risk of alienating absolutely EVERYONE, the difference between a Republican and a Democrat in this country is a sliver compared to the difference between the interests of Saddam and that of his people. *Everyone* should be on board with this war. To be otherwise is to expose yourself as a petty, unpatriotic partisan.

And, while we're doing things local, may I be so bold as to add that everyone should also email a complaint to the DC mayor's office that Chief Ramsey is being slow to arrest these leftists who block traffic in their die-ins? Ramsey's up for renewal of his contract and may be sensitive to criticism -- but at least the Mayor's office might be. That address is: http://dc.gov/mayor/talk.shtm

It seems no stretch to me to think that Arnett is just a smarter and more subtle version of Scott Ritter. Who's to say he's not a paid shill, who's made a deal with the devil to avoid a media/hostage scenario that may come soon?

I think most of CNN coverage is almost as bad, including the commentary of Wesley Clark. I think Terry Moran of ABC is also a total and complete shill for the Iraq regime.

Here's my quick note:

I am writing to express my displeasure at today's commentary by your reporter in Baghdad, Peter Arnett. Mr. Arnett has gone over the top today in articulating his anti-American feelings on Iraqi television. His comments are unprofessional at the least, and could be considered borderline treason. Please consider replacing him with someone who can report the news without interjecting their own twisted politics into their report.

Thanks for your consideration,

XXXXXXXXXX

I saw Peter Arnett being interviewed by the Iraqi government-controlled TV station. I was appalled at his cooperation with the brutal Iraqi government and his on-air admission that he was purposely focusing upon the tragic yet unavoidable collateral damage in this war in order to effect public opinion back in the United States. Would that he would pay a little more attention to the captured coalition soldiers being tortured and executed by the Iraqis, the Iraqi civilians that are being murdered by their government for even waving at coalition troops, etc. But, no, he's more interested in the accidental damage and deaths in order to advance his own anti-American agenda. This admitted behavior is not only treasonous (aiding and abetting the enemy) but it also demonstrates that Arnett has forgotten the basics of true journalism. He has sacrificed his own credibility and that of his employers and those who air his biased reports so that he can aid the enemy Iraqi government in their PR efforts.

Peter Arnett deserves neither to be aired by any news network nor to be employed by any other media outlet. Allowing his biased reports to continue or to continue employing him seriously damages any news or media organization's credibility. I will not watch NBC or MSNBC until they announce that they will no longer be associated with Peter Arnett nor air his reports. Neither will I purchase or view any National Geographic product or program until Peter Arnett is fired.

Aren't you overreacting a bit?

I don't think so. While American soldiers are being targeted by homicide bombers, and others are tortured and shot dead after capture, Arnett is kissing Saddam's evil ass.

Arnett has provided Saddam's regime in Iraq with propaganda to reinforce the belief that Saddam is going to stay in power, and that the American people support Saddam and do not support our government's actions.

I may be wrong, but I think thar Arnett is a New Zealander. Since NZ is part of the coalition, he may be a traitor to them, but to us he's just an enemy shill.

Actually, from another thread, I've found out that Baghdad Pete is a naturalized citizen of the United States.

I suppose if Peter Arnett returns a photo-op with Saddam Hussein.....

Or... with confirmation that Saddam Hussein is indeed deader than a doorknob.... ?

Hmm. I was not aware of that fact.

I'm wondering if MSNBC was aware of that. Perhaps they got Baghdad Pete for a good price.

If you're going to get furious at him over this, then you need to can about two-thirds of the entire CentCom press corps from the U.S.

Also, FWIW, compared to the "Operation Tailwind" scandal, this is really small potatoes.

I like your email.

I told them -- and this is true -- that I'm almost equally offended by the NBC press release trying to cover-up or explain away this episode. It's outrageous.

EVERYONE should email MSNBC and let them know what you think of Arnett:

bob.wright@nbc.com

phil.griffin@msnbc.com

He is saying it directly to the Iraqi people. He is actively encouraging them to resist.

My letter:
I was totally disgusted by the comments of Peter Arnett on Iraqi TV.
This interview was the equivalent of Jane Fonda's statements of youthful ignorance in Vietnam, except Mr. Arnett is old enough to know better. His comments go well beyond "analytical discussion," and free speech when our brave men and women are on the battlefield.
I, along with many Americans, will never again watch NBC or MSNBC if this matter is not taken care of.
I expect to see Peter Arnett terminated.

The Iraqi government does monitor Arnett, however, they don't make him say those things. No way did he say that because he is forced to take their side. That is his opinion, obviously. He is so anti American, as is most of the slime media. I am fed up and beyond with the media. We need to really revolt!

Yes, and given his past transgressions at CNN and earlier, it can easily be concluded that the words he spoke are his own.
