FREEP this MSNBC-Newsweek Poll. They ask if the the U.S. underestimated the strength of the Iraqi military. You know what this is - more of the media's hyper "oh my gosh Bush f*cked up again" hysteria.
Please VOTE "NO - The battle is going according to plan; the media is overreacting." [unless of course you think the media is right in which case pretend you didn't read this thread and go back to reading DemocratUnderground ;) ]

Come on Freeperdom! 47% say it is going worse than anyone expected versus 48% that say the media is over-reacting. We can do better than this. Over 20,000 responses so far!

One good aspect to this media doom and gloomery is the expectations game... expectations were set awfully high early (remember in contrast to Afghanistan when we were all warned by the media about how the Soviet Union and Great Britain had both been spanked when they tried to bring a military force into that country). This time the media seemed to be anxious for Shock and Awe to get the war over with in a week so that they could resume full time commercial advertising and when that didn't happen freaked out.
Now any amounts of progress seemingly defy the notion that things have stalled.... thus they lowered the bar for success back down again.
I still like to ensure that the public polls show that the public does not appreciate the media's poo-pooing of the military effort when thus far there is no reason to. If we were at the 2nd month and were still in the same position I think this would be a fair argument. One week into the effort though and despite all the success the pundits are doing their best to stir up controversy and doubts about the whole mission. We can't allow them to undermine public opinion without just cause. So far no just cause exists.

Good to hear about the link to Operation Iraqi Freedom. Hmm... #7 - I hope that wasn't me using the "f" word. I used a * in the spelling but I know I posted that word once tonight and hesitated as I did... NO Profanity being one of the rules. Maybe that was the removed post? Can't remember if I put that in this thread or not?
To: Impeach98
Well it WAS this thread but it was in my initial post. So that wasn't the removed post. Not sure what #7 was - now I'm intrigued :)
To: Impeach98
Going to bed soon - late night FReepers - sound off and post here if and when you vote... I'll bump in the morning and try to pump up the rest of Free Republic to cast their own vote!

" [unless of course you think the media is right in which case pretend you didn't read this thread and go back to reading DemocratUnderground ;) ] Yes the dark, dillusional, conspiratorial world of the DemocraticUndergound. It really is a creepy place. I go there sometimes for comic relief but I always feel like I have to wash my hands after I have escaped.

LOL--NBC/Newsweek does everything possible to create the impression that the coalition war plan is a failure...........and then fires Peter Arnett for basically saying the same thing.Uh.......I'd say it's Newsweek's "war plan" to discredit Bush/Rummy is the one that's the massive failure.

No damn it; this was nothing but anti-war propagnda bul* sh*t!!!!! They are desperate to put down Pres. Bush, put down the administration, put down the value of freedom, put down anything except doing nothing and letting the knife blade of the threat of terrorism lie upon our necks (the REAL reason the Arab/Muslim street is "enraged". Some of us are willing do ANYTHING to survive as a free nation; when they understand that they'll have 'gotten it'
