Dead US soldier hung on public display

US Marines moved into the southern Iraqi town of Shatrah today to recover the body of a dead comrade which had been hanged in the town square, officers said.

Hundreds of troops were dispatched on the operation after intelligence reports indicated the body of a dead American, who was killed in a firefight last week, had been paraded through the streets and hanged in public.

"We would like to retrieve the body of the marine but it is not our sole purpose," said Lieutenant-Colonel Pete Owen, of the First Marine Expeditionary Force.

Military sources said another part of the operation was to arm local militias to fight against members of the ruling Baath party loyal to Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Shatrah is some 40 km north of Nasiriyah, where Iraqi forces have been harassing US supply lines and putting up tough resistance for more than a week.

My Mom is 77 years old and lived in Berlin, Germany during WWII. She says its time to get every last one of our troops and the British troops out of Iraq and bomb that country until there is NOTHING left. In her opinion (and I agree with her) too many of our and the Brits troops have died already. Oh another thing. She hopes that Saddam is still alive. She wants him to live JUST long enough to see what we can and have done to his country.

There's a rumor that Saddam is passing out copies of "Black Hawk Down" and telling the troops to use it as a blueprint for attacking Coalition troops. Too bad it's not gonna work this time.

Peter "Tailwind" Arnett and his ilk are doing more to weaken this country's resolve about winning the war than any pictures of dead U.S. soldiers ever will.

I dont feel badly for anyone of them that is wiped-out man, woman, or child - think, their survival could mean your extinction or your childrens children. What keeps going through my mind is that most of our troops are Christian. We operate under Christian principles. Islam is not Christian. They have their own sets of rules. I recall my parents traveling with a princess from "Arabia" (at that time). She told them that her father would kill her if he discovered her to be not a virgin. Fathers in that culture would take their daughter to bed on the wedding night to prove that she was a virgin...and hang the bloody sheets outside the window to prove it. I know this is more than you want to know...but that piece of trivia might enlighten others as to their mind-set.

Good thoughts but we need to come to grips that the poison of hate is already well at work. The mooslim Clerics and preachers strive daily to keep the hate machine alive.

The militants and fantatics want blood, nothing else will satisfy. We will have to constantly hound them, root them out and kill them and everyone knows it. Only the abject fear of us will suppress their madness and we must deal swiftly and strike hard without relenting one moment.

Or they will surely kill us without remorse.
