Gore laments the day when the American sheeple could be properly programmed by the elite liberal power structure. Free speech to AlGore evidently means if you don't agree with what you're told, you're supposed to shut up, say yessir, and be happy about it anyway.

"Gore said. "Our best protection is free and open debate."

HEY AL!!!!!....you forgot to finish with ..."in our free and open United States of America".....BUT the Blixie Chicks made their comments to A FOREIGN AUDIENCE ON FOREIGN SOIL.............totally gutless and cahoney-less, JUST LIKE YOU AND YOUR CO-CONSPIRATOR b.j. clinton, AL!!

The hypocrisy here is enough to choke an elephant. I remember the bogus investigation of the American Spectator under the Clinton Justice department, which nearly drove it out of business.

Harassment of an unfriendly publication by the Justice Department is a much clearer violation of the first amendment than a grassroots fan boycott. Al Gore should know that.

"Our best protection is free and open debate."

Al Gore is dumb as a post.

What in the blazes does he think all true Americans have been doing? The dixie licks have been debated openly as well as the trash out of hollyweird (not to mention the effing french).

We dont have to debate endlessly like the UN to make a decision. Celebrities, politicos and even foreigners are free to voice their opinions - and we are free to ACT on ours.

As a free people, a thinking people, we debated and then decided what was really american.

And Alwhore: IT AINT YOU!

And AL Bore, the 1st amendment has been freely execised. Criticism of the Blixie Chicks is just that. If this hurts their livelihood because they spouted off at the mouth, thats their fault.

The real hypocrisy with this is that musicians often use their politics as a way to sell records. They expect it to help sales. Some people liked guys like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, etc., precisely because their lyrics were "anti-establishment". That's the big appeal. Its laughable when they turn around and say that its unfair to not buy their records because of their politics.

Where was Algore when:
Gay groups boycotted Anita Bryant(circ 1980)
"Pro-choice" groups boycott Dominos Pizza?
Liberal groups boycotted Dr Laura and Rush Limbaugh
The usual gang of idiots tried to keep Michael Savage off MSNBC?

Hey,what's good for the goose is good for the gander. Isnt it interesting that when Liberal Groups excercise their free speech to oppose someone's politics it's called a
"boycott", but when conservatives do it, it's a "blacklist"

Gore is completely on the wrong tact (as usual), when he claims there has not been a fair and open debate. If anything conservatives have brought a fair and open debate, while liberals have just simply been dishonest about the war for the purpose of destroying President Bush. Liberals always think there rights are being violated when people don't agree with them. The Dixie Chicks, particularly the pudgy one, did a cowardly and foolish thing by vocally taking a stance in a foreign country, that they had to have known was not a stance they shared with their conservative country fans.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it Gore who was complaining about Rush and Hannity and O'Reilly on the radio? I know Clinton did, but I thought Gore also felt that the "conservative" talk show hosts were pushing hate or violence or something like that.

Gore told the audience, "They were made to feel un-American and risked economic retaliation because of what was said. Our democracy has taken a hit,"

Tell that to the orange growers that advertised on Rush's show.

Anti-American is as Anti-American does. Don't do the crime if you can't pay the time.

Hmmmm, wasn't this the same Al Gore who was Vice President in an administration where people, publications and foundations who spoke critically of that administration found themselves being audited by the IRS. Was this not the same administration who had squads of "helpers" go through the crowd and squelch those who would voice disagreement. Did they not have a woman questioned for hours and her tax returns audited because she voiced her opionion "Clinton you suck" in public.

What the former Vice President and losing candidate for President means is that "free and open debate" is acceptable only if you agree with me! It is too soon for the tactics of the administration of which he was a part to be forgotten!

Does free and open discussion also include Trent Lott?

They had a free and open discussion.

They are free to say what they please and thanks to a courageous few Republicans in Dade County during the 2000 elections that prevented al gore from stealing the election, I am free to spend my money as I please.

So far as I am concerned, al gore is a theif of the air he breathes and the food he eats.

You know liberals just don't get it at all. Yes, everyone has a right to speak, thank God and the brave men and women who risked their lives so that we remain free, but, golly, Al, don't ya know that we don't have the right to be listened to, and if I don't want to listen to Dixie Chicks or you, I don't have to, nor do I have to buy their products or your contrived malarky.

And furthermore, it's not as if the leftists in this country don't try to shut down speech I like to hear. In fact they've been at it a lot longer and are so used to it they can't stand it when another shining voice rises above the fog and brings the sunshine in!
