FOX is saying a "new" bomb is being used, a CBU 105? here is some info about what I have found on it.

Chem/Bio is scary for both sides. Do the Iraqis risk it backlashing on their troops or an accident causing THEM significant losses??

Reuters (among others) - U.S., Turkey agree on supplies for N.Iraq troops

Heheh, on your "day late, dollar short." Turkey is important, for many reasons. We sure don't want Turkey joining hands with France in the EU, plus all the "powder keg" issues around Turkey, all around Turkey.

BUFFs taking off. And what does Sky Guy at the desk say? It's carrying bombs. We don't know if they'll be dropped on civilians or the RG.

Guess he needs a "reminder".

Oh, yeah. Yesterday, he kept on and on about the Wash Compost story about the checkpoint incident. Sky even animated it based on the article and kept playing, "You've just killed women and children," that was attributed to the officer on the scene.

So this is just the follow up of that same line. It makes me sick.

Keeping with the spirit of this effort, the Iraqis should name it however they choose. That will be an interesting piece of fallout.

Well, they haven't been able to blow the oil fields or the dams. Or shoot scuds at Israel. Maybe they won't be able to launch the chem bio either. Saddam may not have trusted the fedayeen with the NBC stuff.

If we are within 18 miles (as reported by FNC) aren't we inside the radius where if they use NBC they would themselves be within the kill zone. Within the red zone I would think that there is an inner yellow or green zone where release would be suicidal to the Iraqis. Of course, we are not dealing with rational people here.

You know what amazes me? I caught a part of the briefing this morning and here is a print journalist, a chick who makes her living with words, asking Gen. Brooks how we deal with the Iraqis in that mosque when we can't (her word) fire back. I thought the General's repsonse was terrific, that we can but choose not to fire back. But the way that reporter asked the question left me wondering how in heck she got her day job.

The CBU-105 is one mean mother.

"And there is the Sensor Fuzed Weapon, designed to pulverize tanks, light armor and troops over a vast 30-acre landscape. The weapon is dropped from an airplane, opens in midair and releases 10 projectiles, which float down to the battlefield on tiny parachutes. When the projectiles are close to the ground, rocket motors spin them back up, where each of the 10 releases four warheads the size of soda cans, 40 in all. Each warhead is equipped with infrared and laser sensors. The infrared sensor scans the battlefield looking for preprogrammed heat signatures, like those emitted by tanks and other vehicles. Once a target is located, the laser sensor then guides the warhead into it. If the infrared sensor locates a tank or other vehicle, it fires an armor-piercing slug. But if no vehicles are spotted, the sensor detonates the warhead just above the ground to spray the battlefield with thousands of lethal fragments, or steel rain."

No such thing as a stupid question. Well, there is, but your's wasn't one (-:=

I'll hang back and wait for somebody who knows, to answer. Or, I may go look it up. For use around the RG (Medina and Hammurabi Divisions), I beleiev they are "close air" support via attack helicopter, and maybe fixed wing (A-10)

Jumping in here with a question: Was the announcement of Jessica's rescue told to the media with the understanding that they not report it until the CENTCOM briefing? Did AP, CNN and NBC then break that promise and run the story anyway? Did the briefing ever take place?

I have a doubting liberal I'm trying to convince.

The briefing did take place, but the briefing announced no name. Before the briefing, AP, NBC and MSNBC reported that the briefing was to announce the recovery of a POW. They did not release the name until (a couple seconds) after the briefing.
