Jumping in here with a question: Was the announcement of Jessica's rescue told to the media with the understanding that they not report it until the CENTCOM briefing? Did AP, CNN and NBC then break that promise and run the story anyway? Did the briefing ever take place?

I have a doubting liberal I'm trying to convince.

The CBU-105 is one mean mother.

Love your handle -- it fits your post to a "T"!

That will make short work. Best applied from a safe distance.

I spent a year with the 2nd ID at Camp Stanley (82-83) - hated AFKN - now in Europe an pick up AFN Europe - it's even worse now! I can not undertstand how AFRTS can air NPR, CNN etc.. considering thier leftist stance.

Is there a (and I hope I'm using the correct term) hashmark given out for press diaper duty? There ought to be. These clymers are certainly doing mean and nasty things to my BP.

The briefing did take place, but the briefing announced no name. Before the briefing, AP, NBC and MSNBC reported that the briefing was to announce the recovery of a POW. They did not release the name until (a couple seconds) after the briefing.

AP broke the story before the CENTCOM statement. The news was supposed to be embargoed.

OK, now the question is: will AP have their press credentials yanked? I doubt it.....

CS: No such thing as a stupid question.

Don't you watch the daily White House and CENTCOM Briefings? Yeah, that's why I went on to correct myself. Maybe on a technicality, we can term the WH, CENTCOM and Pentagon press corps utterings as editorial comments, instead of questions.

My understanding:

Media was notified of the announcement and given the brief details but asked the media to hold it until the CENTCOM Briefing.

The Briefing was delayed--military contacting parents.

AP apparently got antsy and did release it before the CENTCOM Briefing. Other nets followed. FoxNews released the "headline" but held the details, per CENTCOM's request. FoxNews did not release additional info they had until after the CENTCOM Briefing.

Ha Ha Ha!

Those blow-dried poodles at CENTCOM never heard of the 101st!

These Newsday reporters should've just done a stand up at the border when they came back. Not appropriate to do a full blown presser. They're becoming too much of the story....It's NOT about you, MediaCrats!

They'll say they honored the embargo, because they didn't give the name until after the briefing, and they didn't release ANYTHING until one hour after the briefing was "scheduled." In other words, rationalize their despicable actions.

Speaking of the press, where's Geraldo?

AP broke the story before the CENTCOM statement. The news was supposed to be embargoed.

...and then the media began calling ALL the families of the known MIA/POWs to determine by the process of elimination who it was. I don't have to say what I would say if ANY media contacted me at a time like this. They are lower than pond scum.
