Young men like this

Martin Savidge of CNN, embedded with the 1st Marine battalion, was talking with 4 young marines near his foxhole this morning live on CNN.

He had been telling the story of how well the marines had been looking out for and taking care of him since the war started. He went on to tell about the many hardships the marines had endured since the war began and how they all look after one another. He turned to the four and said he had cleared it with their commanders and they could use his video phone to call home.

The 19 year old marine next to him asked Martin if he would allow his platoon sergeant to use his call to call his pregnant wife back home whom he had not been able to talk to in three months. A stunned Savidge who was visibly moved by the request nodded his head and the young marine ran off to get the sergeant. Savidge recovered after a few seconds and turned back to the three young marines still sitting with him and asked which one of them would like to call home first,

the marine closest to him responded with out a moments hesitation " Sir, if it's all the same to you we would like to call the parents of a buddy of ours, Lance Cpl Brian Buesing of Cedar Key, Florida who was killed on 3-23-03 near Nasiriya to see how they are doing".

At that Martin Savidge totally broke down and was unable to speak. All he could get out before signing off was, "Where do they get young men like this?"

What this reporter doesn't get is that our country is full of men and women like this. He just hasn't been paying attention!!

Because he doesn't know any back at home! This was like NY media folks could not believe that Nixon had won because "no one I know voted for him".

I propose embedding these elite liberal reporters into every state where GW Bush got a majority in the last presidential election to allow the reporters to get a more realistic view of the American people. They have been in the bubble of LA/Atlanta/NYC too long.

It's actually a good supplement to the earlier thread. Makes you wonder if someone copied it from FR and started an email chain. Didn't mean to imply that it was just a duplicate.

I was about to comment on the lipstick (Old 1SG habits die hard) then I realized she's probably Air Force. Not a dig, just different regs, although I don't see the reason for it on a mission.

Thank you all, you do us old warriors proud!

We really should send a copy of THIS map to that "journalist" to answer his question. I think it would resonate with him NOW.

"Where do they get young men like this?"

They're grown in America, planted in the soil of freedom, and nurtured with the love of God and family.

This has the makings of the "Quote of the Day."

I second this request!

Duty Honor Country ... the Marines live it, unlike the liberals Mister Savage is so familiar with to believe these warriors are something rare. They are not. As someone noted above, the real America is in flyover country, not Hollywood. The most dangerous threat to liberalism's corrosive grip on this Nation are the returning Soldiers who will discover the anti-American bullshit the 'lieberals' and their chosen democrat party have spewed forth while these Honorable Soldiers have been risking life and limb for this nation.

When a farmer plants his crops, he takes care, watering and hoeing, to support its fruitfulness. Our Soldiers will return to the truth that democrats and peacenik/appeaseniks are sowing tares and stomping on the vines to prevent the good harvest. I would bet my own outrage will shrink by comparison to the Soldiers' anger at those who've sneared at the good vine of freedom watered with Soldiers' precious blood.

"Embedding the reporters was a brilliant move, not so much because the American people get a more realistic ground-level view of the war, but more so because these elite liberal reporters finally get a more realistic view of the American people."

Peggy Noonan was on with Chris Matthews the other night discussing embedded reporters. Chris was commenting on "ivy league" reporters mixing with "regular soldiers", to which she replied, "They are meeting a better class of people."
