Concert-goers Jam Exits After Anti-Bush Display (More Looney Left Tirades)
Rocky Mountain News (Colorado) ^ | 4/3/2003 | Mark Brown

Posted on 04/03/2003 8:00:19 AM PST by NYC Republican

Incensed fans walked out of Pearl Jam's concert Tuesday after lead singer Eddie Vedder impaled a mask of President Bush on a microphone stand, then slammed it to the stage.

Most of Vedder's antiwar remarks earlier in the Pepsi Center show were greeted with mixed cheers and scattered boos. But dozens of angry fans walked out during the encore because of the macabre display with the Bush mask, which he wore for the song Bushleaguer, a Bush- taunting song from the band's latest album, Riot Act.

"When he was sharing his political views in a fairly benign manner - supporting our troops, opposing policy - that's OK," said Keith Zimmerman, of Denver.

"When he takes what looks like the head of George Bush on a stick, then throws it to the stage and stomps on it, that's just unacceptable. I love Pearl Jam, but that was just way over the edge. We literally got up and left."

Others joined Zimmerman, some complaining about the lyrics of Bushleaguer, which in part call Bush "a confidence man" and say, "He's not a leader / he's a Texas leaguer."

"I wasn't sure if it was really happening," said Kim Mueller. "We looked at each other and realized he really did have George Bush's head on a stick and was waving it in the air, then slam-med it to the ground and step-ped on it."

"It was like he decapitated someone in a primal ritual and stuck their head on a stick," Zimmerman said. "It kinda blows away the Dixie Chicks."

I used to really enjoy their music- years ago, until they went "creative", and their music has been horrific ever since. I remember many of the critics calling them the second coming of the Beatles (then again, many critics thought "the Knack" was also going to be the next Beatles - remember them?).

Add them to the list of clueless, hateful, vermon in the entertainment industry.

I've been on to this joker ever since he wrote "PROCHOICE" on his body with a magic marker while performing live on SNL ten years ago.

Too bad his career has already been over for years - I would have enjoyed the backlash.

Eddie had to use visual methods to convey his thoughts because you can't hardly understand a word the mushmouth crack-smack head sings. Toe Jam's music sucks anyway. Did I read it right all 12 people left?

The only thing they ever made that was worth the recording tape was their first album 'Ten'. Everything since has been pure crap. It's no shock that they're resorting to seditious grandstanding to revive the corpse of their careers.

I am guessing that the net effect of all these actions by Madonna, Dixie Chicks, and other entertainers is probably fairly positive for Bush. Major segments of the music and film industries are making themselves took worse and worse and making Bush look like more and more of a hero for sticking to his principles without engaging his vicious detractors directly. This strategery is working pretty well, IMHO.

I think not backing down, yet not replying publicly to abuse is a very deliberate plan on Bush's (and perhaps Rove's?) part. It may well be the best public response possible to looney leftists.

Yeah, PROCHOICE- the right to kill one's unborn baby. Some choice.

One thing I never understood.

In New York, one can have an abortion, no questions asked, through the end of the 6th month. This could easily go into the middle of the 7th month (who can tell precisely). NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

Now, hypothetically... what are the legal ramifications if she has an abortion? None. What if she goes into labor that day, gives birth, and then dumps the baby in the trash? Murder. The only difference being the passing through the canal. It's still a live baby, inside or out. It can surely live on its own during the 7th month. Each time I've asked friends this question, no one has come up with a reasonable response. Exposes their hypocrisy.
The above example is for illustrative purposes, but it shows just how twisted their views are, IMO.

Don't mean to turn this thread into Choice/Life... Just couldn't let that go... Thanks.

Hey, I'm right there with you. Abortion makes as much sense in 2003 as slavery did in 1863.

Clearly a moral abomination whose time has come.

I thought the Kosovo bombing was a fantastic move, liberating people being brutally persecuted and murdered, just like Bosnia and Iraq (I wish we would have acted to stop the horrendous murders in Rwanda, when the Hutu butchered the Tustis for months)...

Bush has solid moral character. He makes us proud of our president. Clinton's legacy is a stained blue dress and smelly (also stained) cigars.

Quite a difference there.

I didn't hear much about "supporting our president" when Clinton was bombing Kosovo.

Yawn.

Please spare us the "more conservative than thou" spiel. It's getting frighteningly old.

First, I think most five year olds would know the difference between bombing targets from 30,000 feet and clashing with the enemy face-to-face on the ground. Our troops are directly in harm's way and they deserve support, not carping.

Second, I don't remember anyone talking much about "failed diplomacy" when your hero Clinton couldn't get our European "allies" to intervene in a conflict taking place in Europe.

Third, a President's character counts.

Fourth, this war has a clear goal in sight, not some vague plan to "stabilize" someone else's civil war.

More evidence of selective memory. Most Republicans supported Clinton's decision on Kosovo, especially in Congress.

Frankly, I don't care whether you are a republican or a Republican you're just a Vedder to me.

"As Rush and Sean have mentioned numerous times... It's mind-boggling how much these libs HATE Bush. Spewing venom at every opportunity."

They hate him because he is successful with what he is doing and cannot be intimidated or swayed from his course by their abuse. They are enraged because they cannot get him to respond to them on their level. Bush is too smart to be tempted into doing that. Remember all the talk about "Clinton-haters"? Bush haters are much more intense.

Unfortunately, I have a sister and nephew (her son) who resent good, honest, and decent people on principle. Slowly, over the years, it became clear to me that my sister got much more than the usual thrill from endlessly discussing sexual misbehavior of all kinds. She treated me to her speculations about other people's sexual behavior until I asked her to stop, and even then she didn't stop, entirely. Of course, she is pro-abort and doesn't like Bush. Her son, who is gay, repeats horrible, scurrilous rumors about the Bushes that he picks up in gay bars. I won't listen, and they know I won't.

Good people, just by existing, hold up an unwanted mirror to the evil and also to those who admire evil, though they don't necessarily practice it actively, themselves (like my sister).

The Clintons, on the other hand, are endlessly admired because they give off the same emanations of evil that certain people sense within themselves. I am very sorry that my sister and my nephew are in this category.

"Incensed fans walked out of Pearl Jam's concert Tuesday after lead singer Eddie Vedder impaled a mask of President Bush on a microphone stand, then slammed it to the stage."

That violent, deliberate, open, and hostile gesture warrants a visit from the Secret Service - an intentional threat of bodily harm to the President of The United States of America.

Does the SS know about this?

Eddie is the biggest fraud in music. Rolling Stone did an amazing investigative peace about how obsessed he was with obtaining wealth and fame.

One interesting note is that Eddie was in San Diego before Seattle. While there he often listened to a local band, Stone Temple Pilots. They were popular, he was not.

When Stone Temple Pilots got signed, they were knocked as a Pearl Jam ripoff, but it seems to me that it's pretty clear who stole from whom.

Sort of how you "Republicans" hated Bill Clinton? You support anything a Republican president does, no matter how good or bad. I am a conservative and believe in republicanism; therefore I am not a Republican. Eddie Vedder is a moron, but he gives Bush the same respect that most Freepers gave Clinton. I didn't hear much about "supporting our president" when Clinton was bombing Kosovo.

In 1963 when JFK was assasinated there was a letter to a local paper from a man who said that he didn't vote for JFK and really disliked him, but,he said,"He is my President and no one had a right to kill him".

Whatever happened to respect for the office? Is that considered old fashioned?

Sort of how you "Republicans" hated Bill Clinton?

A couple years ago at the NYS Fair, my band was performing, and clinton and his consort were there to win Hillary votes in her upcoming election. There was a chance they might swing by our bandstand and since I'm the tenor sax player, and I thought that would draw them over.

Backstage I said, "OK, so what are we gonna do to clinton if he comes around? Turn our backs on them like the Amish?" One of the guys said "Look, we're entertainers and we're not gonna do anything that might piss off half our audience."

I admitted he was right, but I see that all groups don't have such foresight.

Clinton DISGRACED it. He created an environment where repect for the US President greatly diminished.

It'll take some time to rebuild that respect. Like... 8 years of a Bush White House, followed by another 8 years of Frist (or another qualified Rep).

Fourth, this war has a clear goal in sight, not some vague plan to "stabilize" someone else's civil war.

Fifth,

Clinton bombed when he thought it would serve his "legacy".

Clinton bombed Iraq the day before the impeachment vote (gee...I wonder why he did it just then).

Clinton bombed an aspirin factory withina week (if I recall) after he fessed up to Monica (gee...I wonder why he did it just then).

Clinton bombed and killed for all the wrong reasons. No comparison to Bush.
