My father grew up just off Pulaski Street in Newark, NJ, in the heart of the Polish section.

I am blessed to have two Polish Delis/bakeries within walking distance from my apartment in Brooklyn, along with a wonderful (if small) Polish restaurant. Now I'm getting hungry for some Pierogi and Piast Beer!

When I was in the Corps, most of our machinegunners were big midwestern boys whose last name ended with 'ski'.

As far as I have been told and have researched, I am a Polish Pedigree! (lol!) In fact, just less than one week ago, my father in NJ told me he'd cleaned up his office, and found...in perfect condition...my grandmother's immigration papers from when she was two years old! She arrived at Ellis Island on the Amerika. Also in this pile of papers, my father found my great-grandfather's documents in their original envelopes, his photographs, and a wealth of other items!

As a child, I attended St. Mary of Ostrabrama Catholic School, the same one as did my mother and her mother. For both my mother and grandmother, the Sisters taught them in both English and Polish, as the town had a huge Polish Catholic population. Sadly, in the Spring of 2002, the school closed its doors.

It's been said, that on my maternal grandfather's branch of the family tree...there sits the Pontiff, himself! I kid you not! My great aunt still tells me that the Pope's mother and my grandfather's siblings are something like 3rd or 4th cousins.

Well, as you can tell, I am very proud of my Polish heritage. Just the same, I have been proud to see Poland among our allied coalition.

I will definitely write a letter! Thanks for the prompting!

Good job! I can say in Cleveland, not much of the Polish neighborhood remains (unlike Chicago), but a fine place to eat is Ewa's. There is also a bakery nearby. My last name is Orzech, which is Polish for walnut. My family is descended from Kupno, Poland, near Rzeszow. I have not been there yet, but will go in a year or so. My cousin Bernard is visiting the USA (lived with us a few months) and is in the Polish neighborhood in Chicago.

The Krakus brand we get here in US is really put together in Poland. They have wonderful fruit products and other items from Shav to Zur. Polish delis here have products made in Poland including brightly painted patterned Easter eggs.

Places where there are Polish communities having polish made products: Leaving out the more well-known there are areas in NJ(Linden); TX (Dallas), MD (Baltimore). Other Freepers can add places in their States.

Google makes it easier to find places to get products although sometimes you can find them in supermarkets in areas where there is a companent Polish community..
