EUPHRATES 'POISONED'

US Marines found cyanide and mustard agents in high concentrations in the Euphrates River near Nassiriya in Iraq, television network MSNBC has reported.

The network said a briefing from Marine officials was its source for the information.

The agents were found during routine tests conducted to ensure the water being used is safe, MSNBC said.

Neither Centcom officials in Qatar nor US military officials in Iraq have confirmed the MSNBC report.

Mustard gas produces painful, long-lasting blisters and often leads to blindness, while cyanide kills by preventing blood from transporting oxygen.

Hmmm. Dumped in the river on purpose, or to dispose of it?

What's the problem with that picture?

If this were true you'd see floating fish everywhere. I will admit that these rivers may be fished clean though. I would think it would be mentioned that some animal life had been affected though. I'd wait to see if this pans out.

Could it be that this, and other stuff like it created by Saddam's WMD, may be the real cause of the increased cancers and other diseases in Iraqis...and not depleted uranium?

Is that picture just a file photo of the Euphrates? (Looks to me like people getting ready to take a bath in it.) Or is it a photo of discovery of the toxins?

Doesn't matter really.
Where's the press releases about that environmental terrorist Saddam from
"Earth First", Greenpeace, The World Wildlife Fund...

These sanctamonious holier-than-thou enviros are so quiet, all I can hear
is the sound of a few crickets that survived the cyanide, mustard gas and
other toxics...

It does look like a file photo now that you mention it. The lack of mention of animal life in the article is interesting though. I would think that affected animal lifew would be a very quick way to determine if concerns were justified or not, then research the actual levels subsequent to that.

I bet this is why Saddam cut the power to baghdad. If he's going to die he wants to kill his entire population with it. No power means no water. No water means the people will go to the river to drink or at least the water won't be cleaned before sending to the people.

Well this picture is from the Sky News site.. possibly just a picture of the Euphrates and not one that is current .. one that is showing the poisoning of the river.

This will probably be Blix's excuse for why they couldn't find anything.

Tour exotic Iraq . . . but don't drink the water.

Wasn't there an attempt made to poison our troops' water in Jordan a few days ago?
