Heroes

Heroes still walk the land
From Afghan mountains to Iraqi sands

Their country needs them, so they heed the call
If need be, they'll give it all

Where would we be, without this kind?
No doubt about it, we'd be in a bind

As they fight our foes in planes and tanks
We can pray for them, and offer up our thanks

When they're attacked by men that lie
Let us guard their flanks, we must really try

Someday soon, they'll come marching home
May they find much more than this simple poem

EV

Thank you.... that poem was truly soul stirring. I do hope you don't mind that it is on it's way (via e-mail) to my hubby and 7 others who have been in the Afghan desert now for 7 months and counting... And I know they will appreciate your thoughtful words. Thank you again...

I think your definition of terrorist is rather broad. Iraqi soldiers shooting at American soldiers army may be a lot of things (stupid comes to mind) but terrorists? Nah.

I heard cigarettes are going for $50 a pack in Iraq. Is that true?

Don't know, but shipments of supplies should contain tobacco, bringing the prices back down...it is a little like jail, though, with scarce items becoming "currency"...Poor fellows. I don't smoke, but I remember when my military father did...and it would have been difficult to go without them during times of stress.

Yah I think the smokes should've been delivered on the cargo plane that landed at Baghdad International.

OK - Somebody who's clever at Photoshop editing;

Can we superimpose an Abram's main gun muzzle staring this has-been in the face at point-blank range?

How about a cartoon baloon with the Arabic characthers for "OH $___ !"?

Hey, Bob; check out THIS "Special Effect"!

Good luck slowing down the 3rd ID with that .38!
Jihad over; no quarters left.

This looks like the unit that we saw on FOX footage burning during the "Thunder Run". As far as I know, this was the only tank combat-lost during the operation.

When the footage was first shown, I saw what appeared to be the Crew abandoning this Abrams, which was about 50% involved in the forward section, with smoke pouring out of the muzzle of the main tube as well as all of the forward vents. They had a tow-bar hitched to the front, but apparently decided that towing a burning Abrams through town was a no-go.

I wonder if they were able to offload the ammo to another tank or neutralize it somehow, as we didn't see any "secondaries" going off.

The last man overboard pulled the pin on what appeared to be a fragmentation grenade and tossed it down the main hatch before he bailed out, which told me on no uncertain terms that this poor battlewagon had fought its last fight.

All subsequent shots of this scene cut before the grenade "Coup' de' Grace", and I wonder if we were not supposed to see it.

By the looks of the remains which these Saddamnites are gloating over, I'd say that an A-10 or some such probably finished off the finishing off after the freindly collumn had moved on.

That's what... about $6 mil worth of scrap-metal sitting there?

I'm a little surprised that they left the .50BMG on the turret (not shown here but I saw it on an earlier pic); perhaps they didn't have time to dismount it.

The .50 on the APC that the FNC Crew was filming from was giving the Commander fits; it would only go about 3 rounds before jamming - that guys' arm must have been sore at the end of that run from constantly re-charging the brute.

It almost looks as if this young Warrior -

...might almost be ENJOYING this!

General Robert E. Lee was right, I think;
Although I don't recall his quote verbatum, it was something to the effect that it is good that war is such a horrific thing; otherwise men might take to enjoying it entirely too much.

I wonder how many guys are going to have pictures of themselves "taking their ease" on Saddamn's marble commode?

I wonder if they have any interesting Arabic versions of "Sports Illustrated" for them to read while so engaged?

I also wonder if he thought to leave a roll or two of nice perfumed tissue?

We are rather surprised that we have yet to see at least one such photo here....

Yet! };^{)~

Gee; how long do you suppose it'll be before the NY Times runs this as:

"Oppressed Iraqis struggle under the burden of American Imperialism after coalition conquest"?

Re: "It's so pretty, this red, white and blue;
If it means freedom, I want it too"

Dang, EV; you are GOOD!

Mind if I e-mail that one around? It deserves circulation - especially to some of our "No blood for oil" associates!

It's about a LOT MORE than OIL, chumps!

Bravo!
