Getting in the Ring With Boxer?

Political insiders have been speculating for weeks that U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin might challenge Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) in next year's election. Marin has yet to confirm or deny such talk, but she also doesn't seem to mind it.

Marin, the highest-ranking Hispanic woman in the Bush administration, invited reporters last week to a luncheon, where she discussed California's budget woes and her prescriptions for its ailing economy. But she peppered her talk, which reads very much like a campaign speech, with stories of her life -- her childhood, career and family -- and a few shots at California Gov. Gray Davis (D).

Marin, a Republican, served in former governor Pete Wilson's administration and was mayor of Huntington Park, a small city outside Los Angeles. The California Republican Party, meanwhile, has moved the Boxer Senate race near the top of its agenda for next year.

So is Marin running?

"It raises serious questions about whether people are satisfied with who is in power," Marin told the Associated Press, referring to the speculation surrounding her.

Run Rosario Run! It has been my contention -- and not mine alone -- that Rosario Marin is our best hope for knocking of Barbara Boxer in 2004. She would form a great team running with Dubya on the ticket, which could help him actually WIN CALI! Or come close. That would be fun too.

For those just tuning in, Marin is the US Treasurer, which means her name is on your money. She is a Mexican-born immigrant, obviously a very successful one.

We don't really know how conservative she is, but she's got to be at LEAST on par with Doug Ose, and she seems like an honest, good person, a senator we could all be proud of.

Ruh, roh! I can already see the Democratic Hate Machine gearing up to smear her, just like Miguel Estrada, Clarence Thomas, or any other non-White Republican who's a 'traitor' to their race. Of course I'd vote for Marin in a nanosecond, anything to get rid of Boa Boxer!

I'm very favorable to her candidacy because she is a woman, and only a woman can give a serious bitch-slapping to Babs Boxer. The question is how are Ms. Marin's campaign skills and, of course, what is her ideology ?

I hope Rosario Marin runs. She may be the CA GOP's only hope of sending Boxer back to the moral sewage of Sin Freaksco.

I think her husband, Cheech, could be a real asset in the campaign.

Barbara Boxer is from Johnny Taliban Country? That explains a lot about her.

I'm of the opinion Marin County is even more to the left than Sodomcisco. Just watch the movie "Serial" (from 1980) to get an idea of the kind of people that produce the John Walker Lindh's and Rachel Corrie's of the world.

"Oxnard Calif produced the likes of merry10. Anyway, tell me more about Rosario ... why should we Californians vote for her?"

First of all, she seems more promising amongst a cast of potential GOP candidates that appear lackluster at best. Doug Ose is a repeat of Tom Campbell, and Darrell Issa couldn't get past Matt Fong in '98 (and would get attacked because of his ethnic middle-eastern heritage). Bill Simon isn't the right person, either (he'd be better as a Chief Executive). Mary Bono seems an interesting choice, but she is similarly lackluster and far too much of a lady to go against Boxer. Marin, as a Latina, would immediately attract positive attention (and especially would help in repairing the damage Pete Wilson did between the state GOP and the Hispanic community), and Boxer could scarcely afford to attack her in the usual "Boxer style" too much without alienating a fair segment of the Hispanic community. Marin has won election in a very heavily Dem. area (Huntington Park), which is also a positive. But there is one big question mark hanging over Marin's head, what does she stand for ? If she turns out to be a Riordan Republican, I will strongly urge her defeat. If she is a good center-right Republican (pro-life, etc.), then I will strongly support her. Until the latter question is answered, I can only put myself as "leaning" in her direction, but not fully sold.

I agree with fieldmarshaldj, "why should Calis vote for her?" is a question SHE will have to answer if/when she gets in the race.

Don't ever forget Barbara "Bouncer" writing checks for money she didn't have in the great House Banking Scandal, brought to you by the RAT Party.

Actually, Barbra Boxer is another out-of-state extreme leftist screw worm, that from New York. Along with Gray Davis, who I might add is ALSO from New York along with some of the worst leftist in America......None of these people listed are from California....LOL!

Georgia Clooney born in Lexington,Kentucky

Matt Damon Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Janeane Garofolo born in Newton New Jersey

Ethan Hawke born Austin Texas

Susan Sarandon Jackson Heights, New York

Martin Sheen Dayton born OHIO

Never mind the fact that the people of the great state of California voted 3 to 1 in favor of Proposition 187 only to have the government step in and burn our ballots and declare our election illegal...After we won big!

Jezzzz I tire of this politically correct, anti-American nonsense and BS......

It was how Wilson conducted his campaigns on the matter that created the problem. The "they keep coming..." ads were perceived as not very thinly-veiled racism. The backlash was considerable. In the case of Wilson's '94 campaign, we won the battle and totally lost the war. The state hasn't had a decent Governor since George Deukmejian, and it's unfortunate we couldn't have followed him up with somebody of similar calibre. And when I heard Wilson was thinking about challenging Boxer... These RINOs are a scourge.

Not since that bitch Bloomberg was elected. I was backing the Hispanic Republican that Bloomberg stole the nomination from, Herman Badillo. Unlike Mikey, Badillo switched parties out of genuine conviction, not expedience.
