Perhaps he considered the Chinese Embassy, but demurred.

This would be rather interesting. If the Russians are found to have helped him escape they are making it harder and harder to justify giving them a place in the rebuilding. Now, it would be fair to say that they are not going to be welcomed by the US but then again, Russia is an important relationship for a number of reasons. However, good luck getting any business from Irag's new government if they find that the Russians helped Saddam escape from justice.

I believe it is the US position that the United States would not oppose his exile to a 3rd country.

Maybe it's one of his look-alikes.

Maybe our soldiers should be staking out all of the plastic surgery joints.

Which is exactly why Russia would have no part of this. Unless it is to take Saddam's bribe and then turn him over to the US to get in our good graces as well.

I think that we are past that point. The people of Iraq will scream for justice and anyone who gets in the way will not be viewed as a friend or a business partner.

Hard to say. They are in a no win situation here. They screwed up by backing Saddam and now they find themselves on the outside. If they continue to help him it only makes it worse. If they sell him out, then what does that do to their other relationships?

You know, accurate as those precision guided munitions (JDAMS, cruise missiles) are, every once in awhile they lose lock and go off target and hit something that wasn't intended...like the Russian Embassy. Hey, it could happen!

That excuse might work if only one hit the building. However, CENTCOM is pretty thorough about these things and it would just be impossible to explain how a DOZEN JDAMS had simultaneously lost lock and all of them just happened to "miss their target" in the vicinity of the Russian Embassy. Nope, won't fly. ;-)

The place is vacant isn't it? Didn't the Russians go to Syria and got "attacked" on the way? Bombs away and an ... "oops! Sorry, Putie, wrong building".

Nope, I think it's time for the James Bond ending to all of this: American and British forces storm the embassy to take out S.P.E.C.T.R.E.'s Baghdad commander. Now all we need is James Bond and Felix Leighter, and we're all set!

If he's alive, he will be tried for crimes against humanity and then anyone harboring the demon will be complicit on the world scene. The ruskies aren't that stupid, to go against world opinion at this juncture.
