Maybe liberals see world like Baghdad Bob
Boston Herald ^ | April 9, 2003 | Howie Carr

Being a liberal means never having to say you're sorry. Or wrong, for that matter.

Now that the United States seems well on its way to victory, is it time yet to start pointing fingers at the America Last crowd? Who will Tom Daschle blame now? Does Sen. Kennedy still think the inspections are working? And what of John Liveshot Kerry - America's Favorite Gigolo, running for president on the $650 million his second wife inherited from her first husband's grandfather's trust fund.

There is only one Saddamite who comes out of this war still able to hold his head high, and that's the Iraqi minister of misinformation, Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf, better known as ``Baghdad Bob.''

When Baghdad Bob first began holding his press conference, usually around 4:30 a.m. our time, CentCom would have officers standing by, ready to respond. After a few days, it became clear that responding to Baghdad Bob was less of a job for Central Command than for Comedy Central.

I mean, the man is a laff-riot. He calls the U.S. troops ``animals of the desert.'' Baghdad Bob announces he will tackle the infidels, he will butcher them, he will slaughter them. When the bulletin moved Monday night about the B-1 air strike at the chicken shack, my first thought was, I hope they got Saddam. My second thought was, I hope Baghdad Bob survived. He did.

``I demand the Americans surrender!'' he was yelling a few hours later.

Keep your arms out, Baghdad Bob. It'll make it harder for the Marines to throw a net over you.

As for the American sympathizers of Saddam, well, they're not nearly as amusing. How exactly do they explain what happened to the quagmire? Say it ain't so, Uday.

As it turns out, there apparently are weapons of mass destruction. One of the stories broke on NPR, which is like Pravda turning on Joe Stalin. And yesterday on CNN, an embedded reporter was recounting how the Iraqis were ripping up currency with Saddam's picture on it as they chanted, ``Bush! Bush! Bush!''

Somewhere, Judy Woodruff choked back bitter tears.

Overnight, The New York Times has gone from the Basra Bugle to Stars & Stripes. The Times is reduced to grousing, well, Bush won the war, but can he win the peace? The retired Clintonite generals on TV retreat faster than a French army.

Let's see. The Iraqis have murdered their own troops and their own civilians. They did run terror training camps. They didn't destroy their banned missiles. They set their own oil fields on fire - global warming, anyone? The coalition has found torture chambers all over the country.

In short, everything that Bush said about Saddam Hussein's Iraq has turned out to be true.

So . . . when do the mea culpas begin? When do the spoiled college punks call a press conference to apologize for blocking traffic? When does that Columbia professor get fired? Would this limousine liberal still be drawing a fat paycheck if instead of a million Mogadishus he'd said he wanted a million Jaspers - referring to the east Texas town where James Byrd was lynched?

Will any of these trust-funded Saddamites ever admit they're morons? Don't hold your breath. Meanwhile, assuming he's not indicted for war crimes, Baghdad Bob contemplates a bright future. After the inevitable Saturday Night Live guest-host gig, he must decide where he will next work his magic spin.

The Democratic National Committee or the Archdiocese of Boston.

Baghdad Bob geez.

I hear the DNC is looking for new talent.

Maybe the DNC can bend or discover a few new laws and have Baghdad Bob run for president

So . . . when do the mea culpas begin?

Like he says further on in the article, fat chance. These people are relentless in their pursuit of the negative. The war is, for all intents and purposes, over with no massive casualties as they predicted (hoped). Rather than celebrate the Iraqi people's freedom, they turn a blind eye to that and instead focus on something else to try to discredit the whole operation. They will try to dig up anything in a vain attempt to justify their dismal position. Bush and the others must absolutely love this stuff. The libs keep setting up the pins, the conservatives keep knocking 'em down!! Let them trumpet their doom and gloom from the higest rooftop, we'll just keep proving them wrong!!

I, for one, can say that I truly miss the daily Baghdad Bob Briefing...
BAGHDAD BOB!...BAGHDAD BOB!... BAGHDAD BOB!

As I understand he is only a low-level hack... and if so he should get a pass (if not - Leave him to the public) but I have grown to really look forward to his daily dose of grandiose and flowery propaganda for the Sadam Regime because it was just sooooo Funny!

Get ready for some Saddamwood celebs to be "on location" and "unable for comment."

Baghdad Bob needs a new name and job.

He can go to work for the Brady Campaign.

His new name will be Guncontrol Gus.

He will tell as much truth in his new job as in the old one.

After all, zero equals zero.

After years of "speaking for the children/people of Iraq" (lifting of sanctions, etc), it's suddenly obvious that they weren't even on the same page.

America's Favorite Gigolo, running for president on the $650 million his second wife inherited from her first husband's grandfather's trust fund.

When you think about it, the "Rich" don't get socked with income taxes. The "Earners" get socked with income taxes.

I say we drastically reduce income taxes for the "Earners" and make up the deficit by taxing h#ll out of the accumulated wealth of "Trustafarians" such as Kerry and the Kennedys.

Yes. Let the fingerpointing begin.

You folks outside of New England are missing out on Howie Carr. When it comes to liberal-bashers, there are none finer. He would make a GREAT fill-in for Rush.
