From Kuwait, a Retired General Plans a New Iraq (targeted by Left)

(Excerpts from the Washington Post)

A few months ago, Jay Garner was leading a quiet and very comfortable life in an upscale Orlando suburb not far from Disney World. Today, the retired three-star general has one of the most high-profile jobs in the world: launching the U.S. attempt to rebuild Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein.

Named by the Pentagon to head reconstruction efforts in Iraq, the former military troubleshooter won high marks for running a very successful humanitarian relief operation in northern Iraq after the 1991 Persian Gulf War. But he has also stirred controversy, particularly in the Arab world, because of his ties to Israel and the mystery and secretiveness surrounding his operation.

...

Since being named in January to head the Pentagon's Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance, Garner has become a lightning rod for antiwar protesters, whose Web site opposing U.S. postwar plans for Iraq is called www.stopjaygarner.com. They have depicted him as a prime example of the revolving door between the military and the defense industry, citing his work for SY Technology Inc., a California-based missile defense company that has won tens of millions of dollars in Pentagon contracts.

I could keep digging but this will give you some clues. Probably won't take that much to find the ties to ANSWER or some other commie based funding.

"Michael Shellenberger is a researcher and campaign strategist for issues and organizations. He specializes in helping NGOs and foundations figure out what they want and how to get it.

Michael has worked on everything from forest protection to gay rights for everyone from Robert Wood Johnson’s Urban Health Initiative to Greenpeace. Before starting Communication Works in 1996 he was studying peasant land conflicts in the Amazon."

Medea Benjamin alert! Stop Jay Garner is a Global Exchange front group. Shellenberger is a researcher there.

I do have the answer to "What's left for the left?" It's not Islamism, but Gaullism.

I wonder who's funneling money to this effort to compel UN control. TotalFinaElf?

My question for General Garner is whether or not he is in favor of the new Constitution of Iraq including the right to keep and bear arms for the individual Iraqi citizen?

Jay Garner is one of my friend's dad. He is a wonderful human being. His grandaughters call him "Daddy Jay." I say, Godspeed, Daddy Jay!"
