That's better than what I had hoped - I had feared the regime would kill them all in the midst of their retreat.

I think this is great. I see there was a live thread running last night based on a CNN report from Tikrit and now this. I'm not a CNN fan but I love the competition of it all.

And Fox is saying that Tommy Franks is going to wait 12 hours before announcing this officially. Why wait that long of it's true? Possible to give the military time to notify the families.

Ugh, Fox is showing pictures of POWs, but saying they don't know if these are the rescued. I don't like that. What if these aren't the guys found. This is a little irresponsible, I think.

Yes, to notify the families but even before that to verify 100%. If only the 12 hours will guarantee that these are our missing soldiers..... the time is a small price to pay.

It should be cause for rejoicing among their families. As this war is winding down, its winding down with a happy ending. God bless the families of the POWs, God bless our troops, and God bless America.

Marines find six U.S. prisoners of war -report
BAGHDAD, April 13 (Reuters) - U.S. forces pushing north from Baghdad have found six U.S. prisoners of war who are now safe with a Marine unit, CNN reported on Sunday.
The television network quoted a reported traveling with the U.S. forces, James Kitfield of the National Journal, as saying information was still sketchy.
"Word just got through... They are alive and I don't have more information than that," Kitfield said in a telephone interview on CNN.
A spokesman for U.S. Central Command said there was no immediate confirmation of the report. "Right now we don't have any information on that. We hope it's true," said spokesman Captain Stewart Upton.

5 pows from Jessica's unit - 2 apache pilots - Pentagon being cautious. Operation still ongoing.

"I want to see it verified on Fox News Channel before I believe CNN." Questioning what CNN says should be the standard now. If heard from CNN ask if the news item was verified by FOX or other sources.
That would be our small part in the war on Communism to beat back the propaganda machine.

Now Fox is saying that it is 6 missing found, not necessarily the POWs. There were some declared missing, but they weren't actually the pows.
To: looney tune
Gen. Franks reports that those found are not necessarily the 7 POW's we had seen on Iraqi video but may be others listed as missing in action. Identities still not clear.

Ollie North now reporting "at least 6" rescued.
To: lainde
While CNN and Headline News talk of 6 MIA Americans being found alive, Fox News Channel and msNBC say Franks will talk about 7 POWs within 12 hours. I hope ALL of the POW and MIA family members have already been notified quickly. Otherwise, it's going to be an emotional rollercoaster for them.

Ollie is amazing. 60 years old & keeping up with the youngsters. I have loved his reports.

Ollie North is confirming the story on FNC. He says 6 POWs have been found.....not sure from what units.....found by USMC Recon Battalion......Ollie's unit is near the unit that found the POWs

Franks: Six Missing U.S. Troops Found 2 minutes ago
MSNBC just updated from the Pentagon it is SEVEN, SEVEN!!! Praise God and the Angels!!!
WASHINGTON - Coalition forces have found six U.S. troops previously classified as missing, , Gen. Tommy Franks, the war's overall commander said Sunday. The six appear to be healthy.
Franks said he had been reluctant to release the information because he was unsure whether the six were among five listed as missing or seven listed as POWs.
"They appear to be healthy," Franks told ABC News.
Pentagon (news - web sites) officials have committed to tracking down 12 soldiers still missing or captured since the spectacular rescue of Pfc. Jessica Lynch on April 1, but until Franks' revelation, there appeared to be no leads.
