But why are young people increasingly resistant to the thinking of the Left?

Backlash -- it is the young who have experienced the most extreme of the left and has therefor had the opportunity to see it for what it is, up close and personal. The result has been a rising cynicism regarding the motives of the left.

Over the last several decades, the left has been given plenty of rope and they've used it to hang themselves.

That's what I see too. Freedom of speech and the marketplace of ideas gave us a pretty clear picture of them. Even the younger, more inexperienced voters aren't fooled by them these days. The Democrats are going to end up with only a bunch of elderly voters and support from blacks. That seems to be their future. Their prospects aren't very good. Have you noticed how depressed they all seem to be? I suspect their internal polling and assessments are even more grim that what you read about them here at FR.

Democrats never have to take responsibility for the failures of partial socialism since, with Republican help, they stop short of legislating full socialism.

It seems a perfect time for the
ALL TIME CHILLING QUOTE OF THE DAY :
"The American People will never knowingly adopt Socialism,
but under the name of Liberalism
they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist Program
until one day America will be a Socialist Nation
without ever knowing how it happened----"

Comment courtesy of Norman Thomas, six-time Socialist Party Presidential Candidate and one of the Founders of the ACLU.

Well, since it appears they're telling us what their intentions are, that's a pretty brazen statement isn't it?

What is the juxtaposition?Citizens acquiring freedoms, liberties, and a free market economy while demanding accountability from government and the press?

That's the outcome sought. Serves as a juxtaposition to the masses being manipulated to play in the parasitical elites sandbox.

"Have you noticed in the recent few months and years how the United Nations has rendered itself irrelevant? How the French government has rendered itself irrelevant? How the German and Russian governments are rendering themselves toward irrelevance? Have you noticed how certain politicians -- mostly Democrats -- have rendered themselves irrelevant? How other politicians are rending themselves toward irrelevance? Have you noticed how much of the mainstream news media is rendering themselves less and less relevant? How does that happen? Why does that happen?

"What is the juxtaposition?"

Illusions and reality.

Illusions of power and glory being increasingly identified for what they are -- irrelevant illusions -- versus the reality of power to benefit self, family and society. Honesty always out lives the lie. It always has and always will. Increasingly so as the information, communication and Internet age progress.

A massive amount of lies, deceptions and illusions are going to collapse over the next few years of this first decade of the new millennium. What we've seen in recent months and years is just the tip of the iceberg.

It's important that people know who and what earns real power. That the individual is the highest authority. Certainly not those people who proclaim from on high that they're compassionate benefactors of people and society -- thus setting themselves up as external authorities. Their illusions will continue to collapse and be their demise.

That's what I have been struggling against since this whole anti-war stuff spawned a local "peace" group. The community is starting to wake up finally. There has been a shift in letters to the editor in the local paper. It seems folks are more willing to call the liberal rants exactly what they are. Thanks its been nice learning from you. I am one of those "younger" (mid 30's) conservatives that have watched zoning/living community laws become more Nazified, taxes and fees rise 3 times the rate of inflation year after year, and abortion claim a great percentage of my generation. Take care, I look forward to chatting again.

NEO-CONSERVATISM...doesn't that sound so-o-o-o much better than that mean old socialism word?? Doesn't hurt people's feelings, oh my...

Lol! Proudly paleo. Instead of the trillions a year in the federal budget, try running it on a few hundred billion for DEFENSE. The rest is socialist pork.

in theory it's a boon for business.

But only in theory --- when you look at areas of very high third world immigration ---California and the border counties in Texas, businesses are leaving.

Of course - I'm against bloated federal government (who favored pork & protection?)

But the dims "new" conservatives are attempting a coup and hijacking the label.

Genuine, unfettered capitalism advances human life and, when consistently practiced, lets human beings keep the products of their own efforts. It is fair because it allows people to keep what is morally theirs, whether it's $1 or $1 billion. It is practical because private ownership and the profit motive encourage personal responsibility, innovation and competence. Capitalism never won because it never was given a chance. The folly of today is that most people think capitalism won -- which in theory, it probably did. But in practice we still have more socialism than not.

Deep down I'm an optimist ----right now we're heading fast into more Socialism ---but Socialism doesn't work and it especially won't work here with the open borders. Socialism brought down the Soviet Union ---it's not a system that can work.
