Tim Robbins - Beyond The Pale at National Press Club Today - Hollywood-Hero Responds
www.hollywood-hero.us ^ | 04-15-03 | www.hollwyood-hero.us

Posted on 04/15/2003 3:21:27 PM PDT by lisaann8

04-15-03- I was going to write an Op-ed today to go with our weekly Hall of Fame and Hall of Shame awards.

Then Tim Robbins spoke to the National Press Club today.  I've recorded it for your listening disgust.  To say it's beyond the pale is an understatement.

He has declared war on the 77% of the people in this country who support our president, this country and our troops.

Here is the audio

Hollywood-Hero needs to say, one more time for the record, free speech does not mean free of consequences.

Freedom to choose what we watch, rent or buy does not equal a blacklist.  It's called capitalism.

Actors are free to speak their mind, oppose the war, malign our president.

We, who disagree with their blanket dismissal of what most of America believes, are free to dissent.

We are free to decide NOT to watch a film, buy a CD, or rent a video.

That's where our power is and that's what they are really afraid of.  The buying power of the American public, the ones who allow them the lifestyles they enjoy.

There is no Hollywood Blacklist as they infer by bringing back this new form of McCarthyism in the guise of a Republican Administration.

This isn't even a boycott, it's about our country, our freedom to choose who we give our largess to in the form of our buying choices.

If Hollywood can't take the heat of their own convictions, perhaps they should find another line of work that would better suit them.

The best part was Mr. Sarandon getting up there, talking about how differing opinions should be heard, told a story about how his nephew basically shut up a teacher who was voicing a dissenting opinion of Aunt Susan.

The sense of entitlement of those people!

Why can't these actors just shut their mouths and act? The Shawshank Redemption has always been one of my favorite movies. Now, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to watch it again. I'd probably find myself cheering when Tim's character gets repeatedly raped by the bull queers.

I didn't waste my time watching either, but in another thread a couple of people posted that he got barely a smattering of applause. They all thought he was psychotic too.

The hollywidiots are indignant because they are being criticized, ticket sales falling etc. Many of us think that muslim extremists want to kill us - we take that personally and then we choose not to associate with, as in the case of the Baseball Hall of Fame, those who abet those who would kill us. I mean, duh, I avoid the dimlibs I know in my private life because they are indifferent to someone tyring to kill me, why wouldn't I avoid Mr. Robbins public appearances, next movie etc.?

In fact as hostile as my feelings are to those who don't care that my children and grandchildren are in danger, they should be glad that all I'm doing is avoiding them. If they start getting in my face like Mr. Robbins is doing, that could change.

Tim Robbins is a piece of garbage. Maybe there was a time when he wasn't, but Sarandon has completely corrupted him. Every time they open their mouths, they should be charged with contributing to air pollution.

He has every right to speak out. He has no right to expect to be embraced and loved. He and his cohorts have done a fine job in making all kinds of speech, expressions of religion, workplace behavior, etc. illegal. He is lucky, he has only a marketplace reacting to him, not the law.

No wonder! He said that Ari Fleischer should only call on the reporters in the back of the room (the ones put in the back because they are the only ones who question the Bush Administration) and said that the press was basically a shill for President Bush.

The Hollywood airheads don't understand the difference between a right of free speech and a right to approval.

The idea behind free speech and a free press is that in the debate in the "marketplace of ideas" the good ideas will gain acceptance and bad ideas will be discredited.

The airheads' real problem is that the marketplace of ideas is working just fine.

You grasp the beauty of the First Amendment while Robbins miscontrues it.

In America he has the right to make an ass of himself with his carping Commie crap.

And we have the right not to pay to see him on the silver screen;

and to call him out publicly for his smarmy subversion;

and support Dale Petrovsky and the Baseball Hall of Fame in TLBSHOW's link above.

e-mailed my support to the Hall. Cited the letter from Bill Huber to the New York Times dated April 13:

Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have used their celebrity to protest against the administration and the war at every opportunity. In doing so, they became, by choice, symbols.

Honoring them is as much a political statement as disinviting them.

Freedom of speech is not consequence-free. It allows people — and organizations — to answer back.

I called this earlier, although not the speed with which everything has gone. Elections are gearing up. These people (liberals & celiberals, the whole lot) are out of power & out of favor with Washington; they will stop at nothing to get power back. They are looking at horrible poll numbers today. CNN, their major news outet, is taking huge PR damage. Turner has got to be on SERIOUS meds. So they are proceeding to lash out at: Conservatives at Fox News, conservatives on talk radio, and -- conservatives on the Inernet, make no mistake about it.

We hold firm on all three. This is going to get uglier. ;-)
