That's horrible. I feel especially bad for that poor little girl, finding her mother like that.

Lord have mercy.

I don't agree with Senator Leghorn (D-Disney) politically, but it is a shame to see him going through all this. No schadenfreude here, prayers out to Senator Hollings and his daughter's family.

Like Fred Thompson, this may give him another reason to retire next year.

"Like Fred Thompson, this may give him another reason to retire next year."

One would think that with all the previous deaths in his family that he had retired years ago to spend more time with them. Perhaps his family wasn't all that important to him afterall.

Insensitive remark and totally uncalled for. No matter what party you belong to death is death and someone is suffering great pain.

May the Lord comfort the family and may the young daughter learn to go on without her beloved mother and may her mother rest in peace. Prayes for all of them.

Outliving one's children is almost like a curse. Poor fella.

Regardless of one's political differences, this is a terrible thing to happen. Sen. Hollings has been the butt of jokes and parodies over the years, but making light of the death of one of his children is uncalled for. This is very sad news. Prayers for the Senator and his family.

There is nothing worse than finding your parent dead. It's something that stays with you all your life. Prayers for this child.

Outliving one's children is almost like a curse.

My Grandmother has outlived all 3 of Her Sons. She will 102 in Nov.

Sometimes I just sit and think about all the things She has seen and done in Her life.

I really doubt Ernest Hollings is going to be lurking on FR anytime soon. I don't know the family and won't fake sympathy for a person I don't know. It would be innapropriate for me to wring my hands over the death of a person I've never heard of.

If you don't like a little humor even when the news is not good just don't read my posts or go on over to lucianne.com.

I don't expect you to wring your hands over the death of someone you don't know. I didn't do that either but a little sensitivity or respect would be nice ... it would make you the bigger person in all this.

Very sorry to hear this- my wife used to work with a woman whose daughter is on his staff, and Dem or not, he's a decent guy.

The death of his daughter, one of four children, is the latest in a series of personal tragedies in recent years. In August 1999, his Isle of Palms home burned, destroying 40 years of political momentos. In the months after the fire, Hollings' two older brothers died, one of complications from emphysema and one of cancer.

...my aplogies to the moderator (who will probably let this stay about 15 seconds) and to the senator, but payback seems to be catching up with him and I just can't resist:

"Der is too much consu-u-u-umin' goin' 'round heah!"

Faking sympathy for a family I don't know (tsk tsk, oh that's so awful) and they would never even hear me say it, won't make me bigger person anymore than faking an orgasm would make someone a great lover.
