When it seems like most celebrities are working overtime to bash America and its presence in Iraq, Kiss co-founder - and flaming capitalist - Gene Simmons makes his Pro-America stance graphically clear on his website.
-------------------------------- April 17th -
Recently, because of the War in Iraq, our letters pages have become a forum for all sorts of views. A few of you have expressed concern and sometimes outrage at some of my responses. And, perhaps a word of explanation is in order.
First, and most important, I stand by my words.
I don't often use words like "fuck", "ass" or "balls." However, when appropriate and certainly here, in my own web site, I will do as I please. This is my house and at my home, I freely express myself. You are free to visit other sites that might not offend you.
I have said in this political climate, that I am ashamed of the behavior of people who call themselves either members of the Democratic Party (whose politics I usually support, incidentally) or as Liberals (funny, I always thought I was one). But, I will not hesitate to tell someone off. I believe in a form of politics that supercedes philosophical discussions. I believe in Pragmatism.
Pacifism is a beautiful word. No one wants war. Not you. Not I. But, the most passionate Pacifist is only relatively so. What I mean is, it's easy to be a Pacifist here in America. That's because Hussein and other menaces are far away. The closer a gun is pointed to your head, the less of a Pacifist you are...the more you're interested in stopping the guy pointing the gun to your head.
Granted. Saddam Hussein never pointed a gun to my head. I also never want to wait long enough for him to do so. PRE-EMPTIVE WAR is one of the realities we all have to face. There will never be another 9/11...and I could give a shit if there is or isn't a direct line to Hussein. He had to go. Period. That regime wouldn't think twice about giving an extremist a suitcase filled with a dirty bomb.
I am passionate about America. It has given me (and in my estimation, the world) everything I ever wanted... including the right to disagree, without winding up in a can of dog food. And, because of my passionate love of America, warts and all, I will stand up and defend her at the drop of a hat.
Is America always right? No. But for 100 years, it seems to me, it has gotten most of it right. The most powerful force the world has ever known is not conquering other countries. Previous world powers, had a colonial agenda. This included at various times in history: Rome, Greece, Nazi Germany, France, England, Communist Russia and Persia. There are more.
But, aside from the French complaining (don't they always?) about the influx of the AMERICAN CULTURE, I don't see America expanding its borders...All the countries in the world are free to rule themselves as they see fit...as long as they don't threaten anyone else.
So, the letter column has tended to veer towards your letters. I didn't push it there. You did. DON'T START SOMETHING, UNLESS YOU WANT TO FINISH IT. If you write letters and are willing to give...you better be willing to get.
Because I give as good as I get.
"America, love it or leave it?" I never subscribed to that ideal. It's actually UnAmerican. I DO believe in different opinions. But, I am also ashamed of any American especially, who gets up on stage in a different country to badmouth America, while American troops are dying in a desert country they would never want to live in.
Is that behavior giving aid and comfort to the enemy? You bet your fuckin' ass. In jail, when you misbehave, you get bitch slapped, or you become someone's bitch
In life, you should be held accountable for anything that comes out of your mouth, not just your ass.
Yelling FIRE in a movie theater, is NOT freedom of speech.
The war, for the most part is over. The British and the Aussies, (God bless em both,) amid a murky political situation, stood alongside Americans and did what had to be done.
The Iraqi's are free.
I suggest anyone having a problem with this war go talk to the Iraqi's. Ask them if they prefer freedom (even at the price of, initially having what seems to be chaos), or if they prefer Saddam Hussein come back and reinstates the old ways.
I DARE anyone to say the Iraqi's were better off before, under Hussein.
And, after the war dies down, and people here in America go back to normalcy, there will be people who say that they are "non-violent." You don't want to get into fights. But, what that really means is, you don't want to pick on anybody.
Problem is, the bad guys don't always agree with you. You see, if you're against violence and some guy holds a gun to your head and asks you for your money, you better re-think your position. You better become VERY VIOLENT at that moment. Or, you're dead.
Being a Pacifist, is an ideal. I subscribe to it. I'm against violence. But, only CONCEPTUALLY, if you threaten my children, I wouldn't think twice about snapping your neck on the spot. I suspect most people would take my view.
You can tell by the length of this missive, that this issue has gotten under my skin. So, I'll try to recap my feelings, in brief. Get ready, 'cause here comes the truth:
America is the world's only hope for a bright future.
Yes. I mean that. Yes, I know you live in another country and your country is cool, too. But, America is the only Superpower. There are no others. And that means, the world is a better place. Because if Nazi Germany or Communist Russia were the only superpowers, we would all be either dead or forced to live under their regimes.
America is not interested in ruling your country. If you think it does, smoking crack may be your answer.
I wasn't born here. But, I have a love for this country and its people that knows no bounds. I will forever be grateful to America for going into World War II, when it had nothing to gain, in a country that was far away...and rescued my Mother from the Nazi German Concentration Camps.
She is alive and I am alive because of America.
And, if you have a problem with America, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ME.
April 9th -
Woke up this morning to the site of Saddam Hussein's head, torn from its metallic statue base, in downtown Baghdad, being ridden by Iraqi's!!! I saw Iraqi's running through the streets waving American flags.
I also watched with interest how the UN was insisting it had to play the major role in rebuilding Iraq.
And, of course, the French/Chirac led government and, I might add the German government (who only last week on CNN strongly urged that Hussein be removed -- without so much as lifting a finger to do anything about it), insisted that they be allowed to be involved in the rebuilding of Iraq.
In jail, bending over for the soap is not a good idea. In life, the words SUCK MY BALLS in response, might be appropriate in this instance.
Further, I would like to add my condolences to all the American and British and yes, the Iraqi families that lost loved ones in this struggle...while the American media (the New York Times, the Washington Post and other "respected" newspapers) routinely trounced the war effort.
My heart goes out to people who suffer. And, although "Might makes Right" does not necessarily follow, in this case it does. Better the good guys be Mighty, than the bad guys.
As for being a Liberal. I am!!! I believe in equality -- for everyone. I believe prejudice is the bane of mankind's existence.
The whole world would have become a Communist World, if American didn't stand up to Russia...don't kid yourself.
And, I believe if you don't have the guts to stand up to injustice, where ever it exists (and that means stopping the Germans, the Japanese and the Italians in WW I and WW II...or the Albanian Serbs in Bosnia...or the tragedies that keep on occurring in Africa...or even the Viet Nam War....Panama...North Korea...the list goes on and on)...
One thing in common with all these events: AMERICA.
America didn't stay and "conquer" ANY OF THESE COUNTRIES.
And, the UN??? It's a sham. It can't even decide what to do about UNANIMOUSLY VOTING THAT HUSSEIN be punished.
Me??? I'm ashamed to be surrounded by people calling themselves Liberal who are, in my opinion, spitting on the graves of brave American soldiers who gave their life to fight a war that wasn't theirs...in a country they've never been to...simply to liberate the people therein.
I haven't said very much politically, because talk is cheap (yours and mine). But the answer to any doubters lies in watching Iraq's people dancing in the streets.
Again, everyone who is marching today in a war protest, can line up to my left to suck my balls.
Regards,
L
Simmons won't be able to walk for at least a year. Does that include women and men and whatever else? Ouch!
Who knew Gene wasn't just another pretty face? ;)
Gene wouldn't be saying that if he seen Uzma's mug.
If this is the basis of his liberalism, it's only a matter of time before he realizes and admits to being conservative.
There is a reason why America is the only superpower, why God allowed the Soviet Union to dissolve but has protected the US. It is because the US is the only nation on earth that comes closest to His ideals of freedom and justice and truth, and He will continue to use it as an intrument of His will against the forces of evil and depravity threatening to consume the world and subjugate humanity under global socialism. Like it or not, America is the world's policeman, and all those who are threatened by America's status as such feel that way because they are criminals.
This can't be said enough. We really couldn't afford to wait.
Luke, come over to the dark side...
Gene Simmons was born in Israel, so it's really not surprising that he would feel this way.
And, party every day.
Beat me to it.
You are correct.
Dear Bulldogger:
Republicans don't like to read. If they did, they would read about the motivations behing the invasion of Iraq (money and oil). They would also then read how the military/ industrial complex runs the war machine, and about the strong ties between terrorism and oil money. It's all about money. There's a good article in the June issue of Harper's magazine about this called CONTRACT KILLERS: How privatizing the U.S. Military Subverts Public Oversight.
WAKE UP, Bulldogger! Wake Up America! READ, READ, READ. And spend your money on education and health care, both for your people and the rest of the world. The body count in Iraq is approaching 1000 Americans, not to mention thousand's in Iraq. Try talking to a mother who has lost her son just so you can haul your fat ass around in an 12 mph SUV. If you think depending on terrorist oil to drive around is patriotic, then you have your head in the sand.
And what about the Patriot Act? Do you even know that that has swept your rights from under your feet? Do you even know what that means? Again, READ ABOUT IT.
Your Manifest Destiny is nothing more thasn a 'license' for your own ego and power.
No, thanks!
Oh . . . . sorry.
I pushed the red button, assuming it meant welcome this scholar to FR. Someone just read the manual to me, and, what do you know! It bans people.
LOL!
F Off troll. If it was about oil, we'd be ruling Kuwait. If the stupid trial lawyers, aka Edwards, were out of the picture, your health care costs would be much lower than they are now, the ambulance chasers are the problem. Oh, I stubbed my big toe at wal-mart, I'll sue for 6 million dollars. You feel good commies are going to be the ruin of our country.
If you ever regain power, when you decide to confiscate our checks, those who earn the money are going to say, FU, and quit, go on the government dole, why not give the government nothing instead of everything? Eventually, there will be no income to run the government, ala USSR. According to you, we don't read, we never studied, we aren't educated, so we can't comprehend that concept, hahahah, we are the ones who will give our fruits of labor, to screw you and bankrupt your Utopia. FU troll. Conservatives run circles around liberals in the education department, we think, you feel. FOAD.
I saw Poison/KISS in concert about a week ago and both bands were admirable in their comments regarding America.
The lead singer of Poison very casually mentioned his dad who fought in the Korean War and then supported and thanked troops of all wars including the current conflict. He was very gracious.
KISS' lead singer Paul Stanley took a different approach and exclaimed at the top of his lungs that terrorists want to bring down our way of life, our freedom, our land. His remarks were met with cheers of "USA, USA, USA" reminiscent of the 1980 Olympics. It was inspiring.
