Army sergeants discover cache of $650 million

BAGHDAD -- Two Army sergeants searching for saws to clear branches blocking their Humvees stumbled across a sealed-up cottage Friday. It led to their discovery of an estimated $650 million in cash.

The sergeants tore down a cinder block and concrete barricade blocking the cottage door and found 40 sealed metal boxes lined up on the stone floor. Breaking open one box, they were stunned to discover 40 sealed stacks of uncirculated $100 bills -- $100,000 per stack, or $4 million in the box. In all, the 40 boxes were assumed to contain $160 million.

But there was more.

This is one terrific story! Imagine finding all that cash. I wonder whether it's real or counterfeit stuff.

Question: Should we excerpt any article by LA Times writer putlished anywhere? Or just those from the LA Times itself? It seems to me that it is fair game if published all over the place, and would be all right to post in its entirety here. Do you know for sure?

Where would anyone get that many uncirculated bills...?

BTW, the video on FOX did not look like all of it was uncirculated. Some of the bundles were rather mis-shapen.

Its long been known that Iran has been counterfeiting US notes with reckless abandon. It was one of the principal reasons for the change in US money designs. Wonder if Sadam has a piece of that action...

This is my husband's all-time favorite movie! LOL!

When he saw this story on Fox last night he immediately drew the comparison.

Fer cryin out loud, even if Iran put all the squirrels on the wheels and worked overtime, they could not print half as much as we do in a week.

If this isn't counterfeit (we will know soon if it is), then this can only mean one thing.... he's dead.... along with his two pig-latin-named sons.

Very simply: I am Miss Marple the way that Mrs. Hilton-Wilding-Todd-Eisher-Burton-Warner-Forstensky is Miss Taylor.

It is my screen name.
