They have a "culteral victim mentality".

The Democrats operate by fostering a "victim mentality" in various groups. Once they get people in a group convinced that they are victims of the evil GOP establishment, members of that group will consistently toe the Democrat party line on any and all issues so as to stand up to "their oppressor".

Republicans need to break the Democrats' constituents' victim mentalities. It's tough, since Democrats are experts at playing victims like violins, but if the Republicans can't start breaking up those blocs it won't be long until the Democrats have enough groups lined up that they no longer need any contested voters to win. Once that happens, the Republic is doomed.

, increased funding for government schools

Somehow, I doubt this is a major concern for people unable to have children.

If Republicans can take a firm stance there, they stand to win a great many votes not only from homosexuals, but also from "homosexual sympathizers" who currently vote Democratic to protect the "victim class" of gays.

So the desire to win at any price means the Republicans have to become Democrats?

From your link:

WASHINGTON (AP) - Gay-rights groups, fuming over Sen. Rick Santorum's comparison of homosexuality to bigamy, polygamy, incest and adultery, urged Republican leaders Monday to consider removing the Pennsylvania lawmaker from the GOP Senate leadership.

In other words,

HOW DARE HE EXPRESS BASIC JUDEO-CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES?!?

The nerve of that guy...

These groups no more speak for all gays than the NRA speaks for all gun owners.

My gay uncle own two firearms, is anti-abortion, and voted for Bush last election, as did his live-in "friend". How many gays do you know to so confidently make that assumption?

I suspect your uncle is a minority within a minority. The whole strategy of courting this voting bloc seems pointless to me--they're not 10% of the population like they're fond of claiming, more like 1 to 3%.

more like 1 to 3%

But with lots and lots of disposable income, and thus influence far beyond their small numbers would indicate (can't procreate, therefore no kiddies to raise, only others' to bugger)

If the GOP abandons the pro-life plank, it will be because "conservative Christians" have failed to supply enough votes to be worth the price tag.

Impressively contorted logic.

Exactly. They want to force us to approve. Obviously, they want dissent of homosexuality to be on par with terms like "nigger." It is NOT the same. If I were black, I would be so insulted.

Well you know, if we're going after the gay vote, we need to learn about their rules of etiquette.

I guess I have a problem with the premise that homosexuals are a group with group identity. I'm really tired of the move away from individualism to the "divide and conquer" of group rights.

It will depend ... upon who wins the struggle for the soul of the GOP, social conservatives or "moderate" RINOs.

Exactly the struggle the GOP is facing. And social conservatives are losing. Let's face it, George Bush is not our friend. This, the Assault Weapons Ban, and Campaign Finance Reform all point to a "conservatism" that's gone mushy.

If you keep a pro/con list about voting for Bush, the con side is getting really long. (or any of the GOP for that matter)
