I figure there are about 800,000 hospital beds in the US and perhaps 80,000 intensive care beds. Assuming an occupancy rate of 60% for existing medical needs, that leave 320,000 empty hospital beds of which 32,000 are intensive care beds.
In a very short time, an outbreak of SARS would overwhelm hospitals. Home care? O2, fluids, aspirin, and prayer.
