...yeah, "balanced" if you're Ed Sebesta, Morris Dees, or Al Sharpton. Like it or not, Walt, McPherson has been outed as a left wing extremist. It has also been proven that his left wing extremism entails a heavy anti-south political bias. All of the documentation of both of these facts may be found on this thread. It has also been shown elsewhere on FR that McPherson's political biases taint his historical works. You know all this, yet not once have you ever mounted a credible effort to dispute any of it. Why is that?
Now that's odd, considering that the Soviet Union fell over a decade ago. In fact, a brief search of their website reveals that they reprint quite a number of libertarian editorialists - not exactly what you would find in something that was an exclusively communist mouthpiece.
The World Socialist Site that McPhernut writes for, on the other hand, prints communist and only communist. He writes for them not due to their willingness to reprint his diatribes, but rather because they align very closely with his own politics.
A while back I posted a lengthy article on FR where I refuted McPherson's essay on the "causes of the war" point by point. Look around for that link and, pending time, I'll do the same.
