Some say that American encouragement could make the difference in getting a protest large enough to topple the Iranian government, which President Bush has called part of the "axis of evil."

It would be interesting if people in Washington D.C. and other states rallied their support at the same time for these people!

Yup. No big surprise. Saddam's gone, Iran is the next evil domino to topple.

Surely this is something to watch. What a fascinating unfolding of historic moments happening under the Bush watch.

They need to do it on July 4.

They could've gone with July 6, which is George W.'s birthday (and mine, too, incidentally).

Kinda reminds you of the Reagan years and the fall of Communism! This is the Bush years and the fall of terrorist regimes! BUSH/CHENEY 2004 (could it be a landslide?)

It looks like the Mullahs need to call back all those "agitators" sent to Iraq.

Too me it looks like they're biting off more than they can chew ----they're trying to take over Iraq where they'd have less support than they do back in Iran where almost everyone's a Shiite. Iraq would give them problems because not everyone is a Shiite.

I have a good friend who's Iranian. He was born here in the states, but spent much of his grade school years in Iran, where his father was a engineer. He manged to escape the country before they could draft him to fight against Iraq. It's all an interesting story. The point of this response is, he is still in contact with many people back in Iran (he obviously cannot go back), and he told me that if the Iranian people knew for sure that the US would take out the current governemnt, there would be little or no resistance from the people, in fact, they'd probably help. He said that there'd be a cleric hanging from every light pole.

"The French have made dirty deals with the mullahs. Chirac is one of the best friends of Khatemi."

It just keeps getting thicker.

If there is ANYONE who DOESN'T think that we have "some assets" in place ready to assist, then I have a piece of Arizona oceanfront property you might be interested in.

July 9 may be disinformation. It may happen sooner, with the stated date only a ruse to make the Mullets think they have more time than they actually do. Meanwhilst, our Special Ops guys do what they do best, we still have the 4thID and a flattop in the area - plus we just happen to have some loverly GROUND bases in Iraq, two of which have really long runways. And we don't need overfly permission from ANYONE to use them against Teheran. Not that we'd need them - but they're there...

About 10 days ago, I said "give Iran about 6-9 months and there'll be a sea change."

I like it when things happen faster than anticipated.

Michael

Exciting news!! I don't see us rushing out of Iraq tomorrow or the next day. Thank goodness.

Hope the protesters have guns, else they'll be squashed like bugs.

Sounds like a viable place to practice "leaderless resistance" (as individuals, not collaborating with anyone else, and thus not subject to betrayal or infiltrations, just quietly decide to take out a mullah or other such govt supporter when there's an opportunity to do so and safely escape)

The questions that will be answered is how much under the control of the mullahs is the military? How many casualties are acceptable? How big a crackdown on the press will there be? Will early success of the protesters lead to civil war?

The CIA is generally credited with installing the Shah. Things are coming full circle. Jimmie Carter must be having fits.

My thoughts exactly. Sounds like there are going to be a lot of dead/imprisioned students in iran soon.

Yes! Where is "Jimmy dear" lately? Haven't heard from him since the beginning of the war. Or was I just not listening?

Reading that made me smile. Am I a bad person?

I don't think we'll allow a lot of students to be imprisoned and/or killed. In for a penny, in for a pound. Once we did what we did in Iraq, there's no point in not finishing the job. We'll do whatever is necessary to bring regime change to Iran and NK. We won't have to do much in Iran.
