So the Turks were fighting women and children in Korea?

Your point is well taken.

The 1950's were a moderate period in Turkey's supression of it's non Islamic minorities.

A_Turk is a interesting guy, he has helped me in understanding an area of the world in which I had no background and no understanding at all. He is there and we are here, use your FR members in out of the way places to learn.

I don't know where you got the idea that he is 'there'. He has lived in this country for years.

...Although it is obvious where his loyalties lie.

I don't know, according to him he was born here and moved back to Turkey, I can live with that, if true. I like the Turks alot better than any raghead I have known, more up front and they saved my uncle when he was shot down in Korea.

Nope.

He was born, grew up and lived in Turkey until the early nineties.

>>Last week's Insight Magazine said that there were whispered rumors of a military coup in the making.

Since the Ataturk, Turkish "secularism" means that when the fundamentalists get out of line, the military comes out of their barracks, cleans things up, hands the government over to secular civilians, and tells the country "don't do *that* again!"

Fundamentalists are in charge of the country right now, hence their lack of support for us versus Iraq.

when the fundamentalists get out of line,

I heard that the Islamists in Turkey were on our side. It was on the radio. I think the host was Sean Hanity, and he was discussing Iraq with Newt Gingrich.

Newt remarked that the Islamists were willing to go along, but that the agreement was monkey-wrenched by the Turkish moderates. He explained that the moderates were kissing Chirac's butt in order to gain entry to the European Union.

Well, those weren't the exact words, but that was his take. Has anyone heard this?

That sure seems possible, too. Turkey is trying very hard to enter the EU, so France had a lot of arm-twisting leverage there.

Yeah I heard Newt say the same thing about it not being the Muslims. Not sure I am convinced that's correct. I think where we and Turkey have agreed in the past has been based more on short term or political expediency than any sort of shared vision. The way they have dealt with certain minorites in the region in the past century says a lot about how their views supposidly line up with ours.

BTW, aturk should come along any time and let us know this is all due to our not keeping certain promises after GW1.

Have you EVER WORKED with the Turkish Military?

Have you ever met a Turkish special forces unit?

I know the answer is no, so shut the hell up Elinil, your racism is showing again.

The Turkish Special Forces are some of the meanest in the world, they should be, WE train them.

Why did they give up so easily? Because the mission was compromised and they were told NOT to shoot at our forces if caught.

Otherwise we could have had a REAL mess on our hands, our 4th ID may be good, but to put them up against Turkish SF would NOT have been pretty.

Turkey will now get a slap on the wrist, although I think we need to be a bit harsher then that.

They need to stay out of this, otherwise face STRICT consequences. They had their chance for a voice in this, and they BLEW it.
