"The recent actions involving Daschle are totally in agreement with the teachings of the Catholic Church and make crystal clear ... you cannot be Catholic and pro-abortion."
Judie Brown, president of the American Life League, reacting to word that Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle has received a letter from the bishop of his home diocese of Sioux Falls, S.D., informing him that he can no longer publicly identify himself as a member of the Catholic Church.

I'm sure Daschle is saddened by this.

Maybe we should start an Ex-com deck of cards?

Half the Democrats in the Senate should get letters, e.g. Dodd, Leahy, Collins, Biden - and the list rolls on. Include the House and you have a mass mailing.

But, you can be a child diddler, and still be catholic, so tom, what's it gonna be?

I guess he can in the privacy of his bedroom, though,
as long as he's with a consenting adult. Or does the Vatican
want to get into the Supreme Court's bailiwick, too?

I'm in favor of this move, but why did it take so long?
Is it possible they know someting we don't? Like Daschle leaving office?

Had to make sure he wasn't a pedophile, first.

So, when does Kennedy get his letter? The Boston Archdiocese is effectively under caretaker management, until they straighten out the mess that Cardinal Law left behind. It's unlikely that anyone will do anything about Kennedy until that situation is resolved. But the Archbishop of Sacramento has spoken out about Gray Davis. I think we'll see more of this. The momentum appears to be moving against the abortionists.

"Had to make sure he wasn't a pedophile, first".
The local bishops, not the Vatican, are usually the authority who censure priests and others who publicly reject defined Catholic teachings. There are too many liberal Bishops in the U.S., for sure. As for your petty remark about pedophiles, I take it very personally as a Catholic. There are about 100,000 Catholic priests in the world, and 99.99% of them are wonderful men who have sacrificed their lives to serve others. The life of a priest is not a glamorous and easy one. That there are a couple hundred HOMOSEXUAL CHILD MOLESTERS that the media chose to call "pedophiles" is sickening, but not surprising. Take 100,000 Protestant ministers, school teachers, therapists, artists, or sailors, and I will guarantee you that you'll find at least a few hundred homosexual perverts and child molesters in each group. And you will also find their superiors doing whatever they can to hide the scandals from public view. What you won't find is the media bashing them to death every day like they do with their favorite whipping post, the Roman Catholic Church. The Pope has correctly defined this problem as a HOMOSEXUAL one, because the vast majority of the victims were post-pubescent adolescents. The Vatican has also publicly stated that homosexuals should not be ordained and should be weeded out of the Church clergy. The media, of course, does not make these statements widely known. Catholics are not happy about this scandal, and most Catholics are very conservative in our politics and in our way of life. Frankly, I'm getting more than a little tired of the Catholic bashing that goes on within this "Free Republic" web site.

It's unlikely that anyone will do anything about Kennedy until that situation is resolved. Thank God the rest of the world, other than the Boston Archdiocese, can do more than one thing a year ... Shame that it takes 3-4 decades to "maybe" get around to what they should have done the first time Kennedy showd his true colors. The church needs to wake itself up faster .... taking "generations" to do singular right things (maybe) is not showing anyone any leadership, especially as to "What Would Jesus Do".

But, you can be a child diddler, and still be catholicWhich in no way implies that the Church holds pedophilia to be acceptable. Not that you would ever be so underhanded as to imply otherwise.
