I agree with your post. Actually, during the war Colmes was leaning a bit to the right. For the interest of the show, he has to stay left of center. I think there's hope for him.

Trouble is Hannity sticks to the script and can't adapt when new information comes his way. He needs to do more research on the guest before he goes into his rant.

And frankly, he is beyond rude. When he wants the attention of a guest he usually says HEY.........which we always were taught was for horses!

I agree! Colmes, if he hasn't been leaning to the right, he at least seems to see our side a little better.

And if one is honest, I believe I can see their side better and with lots less anger, when it is presented as Alan and Juan do. I agree with you. Juan is a great guy! Has a new book out, which I think I will get.

Apparently, at the White House correspondants dinner, Al Franken

What the hell is Al Franken doing at the White House correspondants dinner? He's a freakin' comedian by trade. And not a very good one, IMO.

he picks out a word or phrase of his guest's and attacks that rather than the point of what was being said.

Oh, Colmes does that, of course (he is still a liberal); however, there are often times when even a liberal is on the show and I've seen Colmes get to the point of the matter and Colmes will explain why he disagrees with what the liberal guest is saying/doing. This most recently occurred with the anti-war crowd when they were on the program.

The only time I've seen Colmes lose it was when Michael Reagon was on the show a couple weeks ago....Hannity received a caller the next day on his radio program to complain about Colmes behavior the night before; Hannity placed a live call to Colmes to discuss that; Colmes was gracious to the caller, but defended himself, saying he doesn't think it's right, for either side, to turn the war into a political argument to favor a party, not while the troops are in harm's way.

I'm sorry I missed the mention by Brian of the Garofalo Awards. It's too bad they didn't use the film shot by their cameraman of the presentation of the awards and what the Garofalo looked like.

Exactly! While I disagree with Colmes on virtually every issue and typically agree with Hannity, I have MUCH more respect for Colmes because he argues his points with more dignity and class.

Agree with many of your points on Hannity. He is as quick as a whip...very, very smart. But, what drives me crazy, is his lack of restraint! He can not seem to stop interrupting guests! I hate that! I want him to listen to what they have to say, and refute it, with a good argument. I know he can do it, if he can get his emotions under control.

I don't watch Hannity and Colmes for Hannity, not Colmes. I happen to think that having a lively exchange and a strong voice for the opposition is a good thing. If you can't test your ideas against the best the other side has to offer, you should be re-evaluating your position. This is also why I support Fox having the other liberals and moderates on. At least they don't hire scum like Begala or Carville (like another leftward-biased network does). While Colmes isn't the absolute best that the other side has to offer, he isn't bad. Hannity, on the other hand, has to learn how to listen and respond to what is being said instead of using volume and zeal. Either that, or he should run for office where volume, zeal, and ignoring what the other guy is really saying is the norm.

i didn't see the show with Cuomo, but i do agree that he has deteriorated some lately in his debating skills. but to say that Colmes overmatches him is ludicrous, IMO.

It's not ludicrous. I rarely, if ever, agree with anything Colmes says, but as a debater, he's far more effective than Hannity.

I agree that he explains his position and points usually in the initial phase of his argument, but the technique I am referring to usually comes out quite quickly as the argument begins to go against him. I watched several nights in a row to see how he was agruing, this was the style I noted he had adopted. The problem is that I don't think Hannity is very good at logical rhetoric either. I notice tons of missed opportunities when he has someone under the spotlight. I wish they would replace Hannity with Ann Coulter, that would be a great show!

Alan Colmes is FAIR. (whether I agree with him or not) He allows himself to disagree with his own side (the left) on an issue. He isn't a blind-leftist-mantra-spewing ignoramous. He doesn't use insults when things aren't going his way. Franken? I have never followed the career of this clod and do remember YEARS ago, seeing him on TV trying to be funny. My first thought was: "Chromosome Damage".

LOL! Wellllllllll, I am having trouble drawing up even one example....

Don't make me defend them! I am not a liberal apologist! But, how about Trent Lott? Didn't the libs have a point about his comments being over the top?
