Special Sid Blumenthal Book Preview #1 (released each day this week on ABC.com at Mid Morning)
'The Note' ABC News Political Tip Sheet Exclusive ^ | April 28, 2003 | Mark Halperin, Marc Ambinder, David Chalian and Brooke Brower

Posted on 04/28/2003 8:42:27 AM PDT by ewing

In August 1997, after a career in journalism, Sidney Blumenthal joined the Clinton Administration for its duration as assistant and senior advisor to the President.

He was given the name 'G.K.' for 'grassy knoll' due to his strong belief in the vast right wing conspiracy.Mr. Blumenthal is also a playwright. His work 'This Town,' a satire about the White House press corps, played to audiences in Los Angeles and New York.

Blumenthal became well known during the Clinton impeachment trial. He was one of only three witnesses to testify before the house managers prosecuting the case in the US Senate.

As the trial was winding down, it was that testimony that became an odd coda to the saga.

In his new book, 'The Clinton Wars,' El Sid provides his eyewitness to history.

In excerpts obtained by ABC.com's Political Unit, Blumenthal writes about Dick Morris's freakout at the 1996 Democratic Convention, Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist's allededly 'chilly and inexpressive' behaviour towards President Bill Clinton at the second inagural, and Bill Clinton's coaching of his wife for her Senatorial announcement speech.

I don't think we are enjoined from posting articles from abcnews.com. Why not post the article? I tried the link, but a cursory glance didn't reveal anything about Blumenthal.

After all the major pubs passed on previewing his new book, it looks like Sidney was forced to resort to ABC.com's 'Political Unit'. Talk about desperation.

wasn't it a bad day for Dems when they found out that the VRWC consisted of soccer moms, average american normal people, and news outlets that occasionally tell the truth.

I actually had a woman call my office last week at least a half dozen times over two days. She sternly warned me that I should not contact her ever again and that she has already gotten her lawyer involved.

In subsequent calls, she raised the ante by saying that "if another member of my group (the VRWC ???) contacts her, she will turn me over to the authorities for "hate crimes".

She never did leave her name and I was out of the office when she called so she just left messages on my machine.

I have a tape recorder sitting next to my phone to record these leftist, wacko calls/threats.

All I can deduce is that someone sent her something with one of my Vast Right Wing Conspiracy 0cents Stamps attached and she assumed that I was the leader of this VRWC orgainization!

Perhaps posting audio files of her messages would have a theraputic effect on the poor confused thing...

Not surprising that the Chief Justice would be uncomfortable in the presence of a multiple felon and serial sexual predator.

All the more reason to love Rehnquist. The Supremes also unanimously took a pass on attending the impeached Clintoon's last SOTU address -- an historical rarity.

here's something I posted a few months ago. Sid would be interested

Coming Clean

Okay, it’s time to lay it all out. My health is failing, and I can no longer hide the awful truth from the world. I will be executed for disclosing the following, so I would appreciate an appropriate level of thanks and awe right here. Thank you. You, over there smirking.... a little awe please? Thank you.

Recently, the establishment media and the Hollywood starlets have been guessing too close to the truth, and we’ve been feeling the heat. We? We are the VRWC, the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Yes, it’s true, we exist. I’ve been attending meetings and paying monthly dues in cash since 1991, secret meetings held in normal community halls all over America. I’ve been in Elks Club halls, Knights of Columbus, Rotary and Moose Lodge halls, secretly used for our VRWC meetings. Now you know, but that’s just the tip of the Right Wing Domination iceburg. Our invisible hand has been directing the machinations of American politics from top to bottom. I’m a lowly captain of my sector, but I know plenty about the EMP (Evil Master Plan).

We chose and allowed Clinton to win over Bush Senior (GHWB) because Bush I was no longer towing the EMP line. Our network has incredible power, more than even Al Franken imagines. With Clinton in, we could gin up hatred and discontent with the liberals through our paid agents, the talk show hosts and webmasters. We had Rush on our payroll from the beginning, but we also had a huge pool of funds to buy radio station networks nationwide, setting them up for our chosen operatives to take over prime slots, drive time and noon to three.

While Rush Limbaugh was grabbing market share (we also paid a hefty sum to the Arbitron people), we were getting our TSHs in position (talk show hosts). We helped to put Janet Reno in a no-win situation at Waco and we pulled off our little scenario flawlessly. This event, along with the smaller Ruby Ridge caper, drove thousands of malcontents to our ranks, and our membership swelled. When we needed more time to set up our domination scenario, we helped put Clinton in for a second term. Do you seriously think we would run Bob Dole for President if we wanted the White House in ‘96? To seal the deal, we sent one of our black ops agents, Timothy McVeigh, to blow up a federal building and direct hatred at rural militias (who we abhor because they are beyond our control).

History shows that these things greatly helped re-elect Clinton, who stumbled along with his many scandals right on schedule. Our inside man, Kenneth Starr, strung out investigations according to the EMP timeline. You must realize by now that he worked for us. I know this is a lot to absorb, please stay with me. My very life is on the line here, and I will soon be smeared in the press by my former compatriots. We all swore on our life to protect the VRWC. Pay close attention.

You know, without me saying so, that the Republican Party is in our back pocket. What you don’t know is that we feed them only enough of the truth to keep them useful. In 1998, after a close call with Hillary where she identified us correctly, we put the Millennium Plan in motion to control the 2000 election, position Jeb and Florida at the center of the conflict, threatened the Supreme Court, all the obvious things you already suspected. The election was a bit too close for comfort, but our paid operatives squeaked our man by. The Millennium Plan worked flawlessly.

With our boy Bush II in office, it was time to manipulate world events to our advantage. After a short honeymoon period, we sent those jets into the WTC towers and the Pentagon, while setting up patsies, just like we did years ago with Oswald. We called in all our markers with the establishment media in order to force them to gush and whine about the “atrocity”. We directed them to keep up the gnashing and wailing for a full six months in order to divert public attention from our next goal: Middle East Oil. Wait, there’s a knock at my apartment door. Hang on, I’ll finish this u

Indeed. Recall this would be a full year before we were graced with the name and knowledge of "Monica Lewinsky".

By January 1997 it was clear to decent people that something was wrong. In particular the Riady/Huang, etc. business.

I believe the notion of a VRWC was his brainchild. It was well known that HRC turned to Blumenthal for guidance in such matters. He's the author of the big flow chart detailing the alleged conspiracy. What a nutcase.

I wonder if the Chief Justice had already heard the stories..

By the election in 1996 there had been hearings aplenty indicating what a foul concoction made up the clinton administration. Nothing to do with sex, though it was well known the guy had a problem in this area. But it was and always has been the least of it. Though I always thought that behavior alone was worthy of impeachment and removal----I'm not minimizing it. But there was much, much worse.
