"Gays and lesbians didn't have human rights before now? "

No, they didn't. And they still don't. Gays and lesbians are second class citizens in this country, unfortunately. They aren't allowed to marry. They can get fired from their jobs if their boss find out their gay. They can get evicted from their apartment for the same reason. It's all about the boss's or landlord's religious beliefs. However, you don't see heterosexuals getting fired for being 'outed' as straight.

Yes they have always had human rights and still do. They are not second class citizens, that may be their perception based on their actions but that argument doesn't hold water. An employer should be able to employ whomever he wants if it's a private business, his decisions may affect his business bottom line but that is his business, same goes for the landlord. As far as the marriage question goes, Merriam-Webster defines it as:

1 a : the state of being married b : the mutual relation of husband and wife : WEDLOCK c : the institution whereby men and women are joined in a special kind of social and legal dependence for the purpose of founding and maintaining a family

For your information....housing and jobs are not human rights. If that's the case, I've been deprived of mine.

Are you ill-informed or just pretending to be? Homosexauls are as free to marry as anyone else. They just have to marry a person of the opposite sex, just as everyone else does when they marry. And in most places in the US it is illegal to fire someone because they are homosexual. Damn, in Californina now it is illegal to fire someone or not hire them even if they are a cross dresser or transvestite!

I wish that were true, for that would mean we were living in a free country.

They aren't allowed to marry.

People aren't allowed to marry their dogs either. Does that bother you too? If not who are you to judge whether a man-dog sexual relationship is better or worse than a man-man sexual relationship? Neither of these sexual relationships is for children, just for pleasure. Where are the rights of men who want to marry their dogs? They are second class citizens with **no rights**.

The right of free association was long ago usurped.

People have no inherent right to force themselves into any arrangement not agreed to by both parties.

Thanks for making your statement.
We need to get over this obsession with sexual orientation!
There is too much that is truly dangerous out there.
Yet, in this time of war, 1000s of our citizens who are loyal, capable, sometimes combat decorated, men & women are being forced from or bypassing our armed services for no reason other than silly hysteria over their private sexual practices--don't believe that if you "don't tell" no one asks or assumes or discriminates, even on the basis of mistaken belief.
A veiled reference or snide remark destroys a career in this bizarre atmosphere.
You and I paid for the training of all soldiers with my taxes. Don't we want it fully utilized? Besides,
my life and that of people I love--and those the oh-so-righteous emailers here love, too--may very well depend on the translation of an Arab terrorist's email or the battle field rescue of a wounded son or daughter by a helicopter pilot.
Yet the service members who could be there for them (and for us)won't be because of obsession with their off duty sex lives.
How tragic. How stupid.
Bet no one who could have been saved would have turned away their savior because of his or her sexual orientation. Let's hope those who email ugly comments here never have to weep for a lost child because their potential rescuer was drummed out of, or forced to bypass, the service.
As to honoring the moral systems operating in organizations
--can everyone say Enron? World Com? Tyco? Without the various checks and balances provided by employment and anti-discrimination law, all power would be in the hands of employers, just as it once was in the hands of the ruling class under monarchies.
There is nothing socialistic about that observation; it's simply human nature to grab and hold power. And, thank G-d, human nature to fight back.

Yes, when will we learn. My wives and I are second class citizens also. So is my transvestite brother, who is also one of my life-partners. We're not allowed to marry. It's a travesty. And my hooker got fired from her job as a teacher because her boss found out about her night job. Evil, closed-minded SOB.

Excuse me, my fiancee, BoBo the chimp is calling me...

Not only are gays and lesbians prohibited from marrying but squares cannot be circles. There is no constitutional right to put things where they don't belong. Grow up.

Gays should be second class citizens in this country. It's not ok, it's not a "lifestyle" anymore than robbery is a lifestyle.
