Two of Castro's friends that have not deserted him are Harry Belafonnte and Danny Glover. They came out this weekend with a strong support for Castro and an attack on the USA. I note Glover is endorsing MCI on TV. We should make a note of it and act accordingly.

Why now? Who sent out the order for the liberal hive to "move on?"

I think the idea of good and evil has been highlighted of late. Even these suck-ups don't want to be left holding Castro's smoking gun or defending his horrible political prisons.

Well, they're stupid.

Old Dan loves his buddy Fidel. CNN likes him too, it's called "access" in journalism circles. The stink has rubbed off on them.

I sincerely doubt that a couple articles by two useful idiots is going to make El Jefe lose any sleep at all. The crackdown of the past couple months is like so many others before it, designed to elicit the appropriate hard response from us.
For forty plus years this has been like an extended experiment by Pavlov, Castro says or does something outrageous and we clamp down or cancel whatever reduction in the embargo is being considered. This kind of thing will continue as long as Fidel is drawing breath. Bush and his team may be capable of breaking the cycle, but how they would go about doing so isn't exactly clear to me.

It will take action. If nothing changes it will be as you said. We act nice, he acts bad. We act "bad"
he acts bad. There is no dealing with someone who likes his slave island, thank you very much, and will never allow anyone to call his revolution, his life, what it is, a brutal, wasted, murderous one.

Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte are still in Castro's fold.

Old Dan loves his buddy Fidel. CNN likes him too, it's called "access" in journalism circles. A country--the US being the prime example--which is sensitive to freedom of the press will allow, and get, plenty of criticism of its supposed failings in that respect. A country--Cuba being a fine example--which is NOT sensitive to freedom of the press will NOT allow, and will NOT get, criticism of its ACTUAL failings in that respect.
So the press coverage is the negative image of the reality--white is shown as black, and black as white. And that is TYPICAL of the overall effect of journalism. "First Draft of History?" Bah!

I wonder if they would still feel that way if Castro referred to them as "negritos".

Here's a long shot for you. My bet is that if and when Saddam surfaces, it will be in Cuba. Saddam has lots of cash and that is what Fidelito needs most. Cuban diplomats can replace the Iraqi diplomats as worldwide courriers and paymasters. No, Cuba would be the perfect retirement home for Saddam.

The deck?

Or, he could be in Venezuela. It's unacceptable there are so many places where he would be welcome.

After 18,000 executed people, 120,000 political prisoners and 44 years of persecuting homosexuals, Jehova's Witnesses, readers of Mario Vargas Llosa and fans of the Beatles...
Worth repeating. Is Yoko Ono still planning her little soiree with Castro? I haven't heard anything about it recently.
Of course, if she were to have the same catastrophic effect on Castro's government that she had on the Beatles, I would support her visit whole-heartedly.
