I like western Canada too, but I think it would serve everyone better if they were a seperate country rather than just another couple of states. There is enough resources and talent in western Canada to sustain itself as a country and they would make great allies. It would also allow them to keep the portion of social services they seem to like without having it change us.

I am looking at one myself. My wife's canadian passport says they access to the emassies of great britain. As a member of the commonwealth this makes sense. I have been most polite about my position, it is only you who have been behaving like a makenzie brother. Please stop making the French Canadians look intelligent.

So what you're saying is the CIA lied to Congress and Reagan about their role in order to give Canada credit and some how protect American interests in Iran.

Of course it would never occur to the CIA that given the 6 hostages were unknown to the Iranians at the time, having been squirreled away in their safe house , to just shut the 'ell up and let 6 quiet Canadians return to Canada.

Interesting revision of history. Making the CIA into major players in a piece of history they had no part of and making a President and Congress into liars.

But it must be true, the History Channel says so. Just like every episode of Baa Baa Black Sheep!

So do you now agree that your assertion: "Canada did not even have its own embasies until the 80's."

Is idiotic? Or will you hold firm to this canard because of pride and stupidity?

I've read your discussion and am looking at my Canadian passport to see what is going on. On Page 4, under loss or Theft of Passport, the second paragraph states:

If your passport is lost or stolen in Canada, report particulars to the local police and the nearest passport office. If abroad, report to the police and to the nearest Canadian diplomatic or consular office, (or British in an emergency if there is no Canadian office). If you subsequently find or recover your passport, advise the authorities to whom you reported the loss or theft.

Also, the escape of the American embassy personnel from Iran was an example of wonderful cooperation between the Canadian and American governments. It wouldn't have been possible without both. The Americans were shelterd by Canadian embassy staff and, with the assistance of the Canadian government, had Canadian identities created. It actually took and act of Parliament to have the "false" passports issued by the passport office. The CIA helped to create the U.S. connections for the background story.

1977 – The Canadian Citizenship Act is revised. Prior to this, British subjects (or former residents of the Commonwealth) were given preferencial treatment for attaining Canadian citizenship. The revision removes that provision and also declares that Canadian citizens may no longer be British subjects as well.

1982 – The Canada Act, passed by the British Parliament, ends any further British legislative authority over Canada. It includes the Constitution Act of 1982, enacting the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Although the British parliament no longer has a role in amending the Canadian constitution, all amendments, including abolishing the monarchy, now requires unanimous consent of all ten of Canada's provinces. (see also Constitution Act)

"
[29th March 1982]

An Act to give effect to a request by the Senate and House of Commons of Canada

Whereas Canada has requested and consented to the enactment of an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom to give effect to the provisions hereinafter set forth and the Senate and the House of Commons of Canada in Parliament assembled have submitted an address to Her Majesty requesting that Her Majesty may graciously be pleased to cause a Bill to be laid before the Parliament of the United Kingdom for that Purpose.

Be it therefore enacted by the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1. The Constitution Act, 1982 set out in schedule B to this Act is hereby enacted for and shall have the force of law in Canada and shall come unto force as provided in that Act.

2. No Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom passed after the Constitution Act, 1982 comes into force shall extend to Canada as part of its law.

3. So far as it is not contained in Schedule B, the French version of this Act is set out in Schedule A to this Act and has the same authority in Canada as the English version thereof.

4. This Act may be cited as the Canada Act 1982. "

1982 – Dominion Day is renamed Canada Day.

And last:

From the Consular affairs department of Canada (note year)

http://www.dfait-maeci.gc.ca/department/mandate-en.asp

The Department's legal mandate, as set out in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Act, RSC 1985, c. E-22, is to:

conduct all diplomatic and consular relations on behalf of Canada;

conduct all official communication between the Government of Canada and the government of any other country and between the Government of Canada and any international organization;

conduct and manage international negotiations as they relate to Canada;

coordinate Canada's economic relations;

foster the expansion of Canada's international trade;

coordinate the direction given by the Government of Canada to the heads of Canada's diplomatic and consular missions and to manage these missions;

administer the foreign service of Canada;

foster the development of international law and its application in Canada's external relations.

* * * * **** **

all in the canadian government's own words.

I see you were unable to prove your knee-slapping canard that:

"Canada did not even have its own embasies until the 80's."

What point are you trying to make? That Canada is part of the Commonwealth? Canada had its constitution repatriated in 1982 - hence the dates on these laws. Did she have embassies before that? Of course. Was she a country before that? Of course. Does she still have links to britain? Of course.

Is any of this relevant to the "hate Canada" rant that you are on? Hardly. Try again...
