No. You may want to dig it out of the freeper archives, but it was established that they are not related.

"Any relation to the Padilla guy who some think is John Doe #2?" No. She is Filipino. He was of Puerto Rican ancestry, as I recall.

Nichols' court-appointed attorneys
have been paid about $2.5 million so far. Sheesh.

Nichols is guilty as hell, and I hope he soon joins bud Tim there.
With that said:
Memo to self, don't contact politicians, write letters to the editor, don't protest, stop posting on FR. Seems they can build a case against any of us if that is their thing.
The fear factor will soon be in full play.

District Judge Allen McCall warned Padilla to tell the truth after she denied or said she couldn't recall earlier statements she made to the FBI. One of those statements described Nichols as an anti-government, secretive survivalist. Why was she giving testamony at all? Was she pressured? Doesn't a wife have the right not to give testamony against her husband? Can any Freeper attorney shed some light on this?
My guess is the FBI just lied to her and she was intimidated into giving evidence. If she did not fully understnd her rights, it would be easy to see how it could happen. I've seen people crack in much smaller cases.....

Are we talking about Jose Padilla, the guy arrested for plotting to detonate a dirty bomb in the U.S.?
Or a different "John Doe #2" ?

The existence of the call to the senator's office has never before been made public. It's nice that someone can finally remember something that happened about ten years ago...a phone call.

State prosecutors said they have dropped [FBI lab fix-it-guy] Burmeister from their witness list. No surprise here.

One thing I am seeing, is people from the left and freedom lovers finding a common purpose in opposing the Patriot act and expansion of it.

"Are we talking about Jose Padilla, the guy arrested for plotting to detonate a dirty bomb in the U.S.? Or a different "John Doe #2" ?" At the time of his arrest, some remarked that Jose Padilla resembled the John Doe #2 sketch. So, I presume Rodney King was referring to that Jose Padilla.

It's nice that someone can finally remember something that happened about ten years ago...a phone call. If Nichols gets the death penalty, waives all appeals, insists on a speedy execution by lethal injection followed by a cremation, I'll be impressed.

I get your drift, honway. I'm still following your postings on that 220+ length thread. Keep up the great work!

Why was she giving testamony at all? Was she pressured? Doesn't a wife have the right not to give testamony against her husband? Can any Freeper attorney shed some light on this? In most jurisdictions a spouse can not testify as to conversations with the other spouse. It generally is not a limitation on evidence of actions the one spouse observed. The privilege is made to protect the sanctity of conversations between spouses. Generally the law also protects conversations of doctors and patients, priests (religous leader) and confessant, lawyers and clients. In this case his wife testified as to observable facts, the finding of money, the key, etc. I am not from Oklahoma so I don't know what the "marital privilege" covers.

It doesnt cover much, if anything at all. The laws were revised in the mid 90's after a series of husband-wife crimes.
Now that most of the allegations of the criminal activity mcVeigh and Nichols participated in prior to the bombing are being addressed by testimony, I wonder when the testimony will turn to the incident in which Nichols and Padilla's child died of asphyxiation ( crawled inside of a plastic bag?). I seem to remember McVeigh was under some suspicion about that, since he was around and unaccounted for.
Anyone remember anything about that?

For much more on the Jose Padilla angle:
http://www.whoisjohndoe2.com Lana Padilla is not Filipina. She's anglo, maiden name Walsh. Padilla is the surname of her third husband, Leonard Padilla.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal (facilitated by yours truly), she said she was not aware of any relation to Jose Padilla (but she did think that he looked a lot like the JD2 sketch).
Nichols' second wife, Marife Torres, was a Filipina.
