Roasted in Their Own Bonfire [Sid Blumenthal Reviews 'The Starr Report'- Book Excerpt #3]
Salon 'Trading at 0.05 cents a share' .com ^ | May 7, 2003 | Former Bill Clinton Chief Of Staff Sidney 'Swamp Thing' Blumenthal

The Starr report is among the strangest sex books even written. Its two main characters are an infatuated needy young woman and a middle aged man who tries time and time again to end the affair but allows his instinct to override his sense.(!)

The story is ordinary, squalid and unhappy. What distinguishes this dreary tale from countless others of its kind is the unusual narrator.

He is omniscient, hovering even in the bathroom. He sees everything, recording every sexual adventure bloodlessly. Every sexual enoucounter is footnoted.

He is cloaked as an antiseptic clinician-pornography in a white labratory coat. The graphic detail is relentless, the prose as antierotic as possible.

The characters are described as complementary in their mutual debasement: the woman is depicted as guilty and innocent, bad and wronged; the man is innocent and guilty, susceptible and wronging.

But the narrator's obsession extends beyond the two protagonists. He introduces another character who is always on his mind, but whose absence is his only reference: 'Mrs. Clinton was in Africa..Mrs. Clinton was in Ireland.' The author's intent to humiliate focuses on her, too. Her wishes for her to be stained as well. There is no other reason for her inclusion.

The inference is what offends the narrator was not so much the affair as the marriage.(?)

Starr's book is not starnge but logical and far seeing. Starr recognized the ability of Willie and his sewer dwellers to lie, fabricate, distort the truth, and, by eliminating witnesses and evidence, change the "truth" over time.

Starr's report freezes the facts and makes Willies legacy unrevisable. Starr fought rivisionism and has gifted history with a fact situation that can not be changed, no matter what the NYT, CNN, and the other old time media try to do.

Think of the story and imagry of Willie and his cigar. Had Starr not presented all the facts regarding this incident, Willie would already morphed it into some innocent description. Hillie doesn't want those facts around and Willie's spawn on the old news channels are doing everything they can lie about to try to "improve" Willie's legacy.

Willie has built a machine (not with HIS money, of course) at the Arkie library that will turn out pro-Willie filth for a 100 years. The only truth folks will have is Starr's report, if you can find it.

Two coaches were fired for less than Clinton did. Same with several high ranking Military officers and CEOs. There is a higher standard in College athletics than for the Office of the President (if it is a dem).

What is more interesting -- that salon.com somehow ponied up some cash (presumably) or that old Sidney, out of the plethora of liberal media outlets, chose that meager place to roll out his frantic pulp fiction?
