Senator Robert "Ku Klux Klan" Byrd
On The Home Front ^ | 6 May 2003 | William D Hocutt

Posted on 05/07/2003 3:50:07 PM PDT by UnkHiram

Senator Robert "Ku Klux Klan" Byrd, a former recruiter for the Bed Sheet Bandits of West Virginia recently made some comments about President Bush's appearance on the USS Abraham Lincoln. Before we discuss his comments, Lets examine Senator Byrd and his "History."

Senator Byrd voted against the confirmation of Clarence Thomas (An African American) to the Supreme Court. Now, I can see Yall saying that Clarence Thomas is a Republican and a Conservative and Senator Byrd is neither, so naturally he would vote against him. I would surrender that point except for the fact that Senator Byrd also voted AGAINST the confirmation of Thurgood Marshall, A Very Liberal, Very Democrat African American Judge, when he was nominated to the Supreme Court.

During the year 2001 on a broadcast of Fox News Sunday, Senator Byrd twice used the "N" word. He NEVER publicly apologized for the use of that word, instead sending a written apology to the network.

Senator Byrd voted against removing from an office an elected official that was guilty of Perjury, Lying to a Congressional Investigating Committee and Obstruction of Justice in a Civil Rights Court Case. The Individual in question was disbarred in his home state and prohibited from practicing law before the Supreme Court. The Reason Senator Byrd refused to remove this gentleman from office? Because it was a Democrat President: President William Clinton.

During the 1940s Senator Byrd spent two "ELECTED" terms as a recruiter for the Ku Klux Klan in West Virginia. Senator Byrd was one of the DEMOCRATS That tried to prevent the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill with a Filibuster. Senator Byrd was among the Democrats that voted AGAINST the 1964 Civil Rights act.

In a letter to Mississippi Senator Bilbo in 1947, Senator Byrd wrote "never submit to fight beneath the banner [the American flag] with a Negro by my side. Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds."

Senator Byrd is widely known as the "King of Pork." He brings home to West Virginia More Federal dollars than any other Senator in Washington. Senator Byrds voting record and actions in the US Senate would make Nathan Bedford Forest (The Founder of the KKK) jump for Joy.

On March 19th 2003, Senator Byrd said on the Senate Floor "Instead of reasoning with those with whom we disagree, we demand obedience or threaten recrimination. Instead of isolating Saddam Hussein, we seem to have isolated ourselves. We proclaim a new doctrine of preemption which is understood by few and feared by many. We say that the United States has the right to turn its firepower on any corner of the globe which might be suspect in the war on terrorism. We assert that right without the sanction of any international body. As a result, the world has become a much more dangerous place. We flaunt our superpower status with arrogance. We treat UN Security Council members like ingrates who offend our princely dignity by lifting their heads from the carpet. Valuable alliances are split. "

Are we to assume from these comments, That Senator Byrd feels the United States may only defend itself when the United Nations says we can?

Recently Senator Byrd made the following statement regarding President Bush's Speech on the USS Abraham Lincoln. ""I do not begrudge his salute to America's warriors aboard the carrier Lincoln, for they have performed bravely, ... but I do question the motives of a desk-bound president who assumes the garb of a warrior for the purposes of a speech,"

I don't remember Senator Byrd questioning the Motives of a Draft Dodger President at Normandy. It seems Senator Byrd only questions the Motives of Republican Presidents. Could it be his objection is Purely Political?

Senator Byrd is offensive to most Americans.

His attempt to politicize the deaths of brave warriors is unforgivable. His time is up.

Senator (for life) Byrd has more buildings/monuments/bridges/etc. named after him in West Virgina than Saddam had in Iraq.

Now, let's see what we have. Senator Byrd, who is older than dirt and is supposed to be a thorough historian (and who played a Confederate General in Gods and Generals), has his knickers in a twist over President Bush's speech aboard the USS Abe Lincoln.

Has the esteemed Senator unaware of President Abe Lincoln? He was in all the papers. Lincoln delivered a short speech known as The Gettysburg Address at the official opening of a military cemetary in that Pennsylvania town. Wow! That sounds like "exploiting a military situation for political gain." Somebody should wake the good Senator up, and ask whether his objections to President Bush also apply to President Lincoln.

I really wish people would stop using the "he was in the KKK!" knee-jerk response to Byrd. Eventually, it gets old and no one listens to it anymore; I know I'm getting tired of hearing it. Can't people start rebutting this guy factually instead of historically?

Can we mention his use of the term "white niggers" on National live television last year?

Neil Cavuto (Fox News Channel) said that Robert Byrd is the last person on earth who should be lecturing someone about grandstanding!

Bush was congratulating the sailors aboard the Lincoln, and also thanking them for a
job well done. In addition he was thanking them for enduring the 4 month extension
to their normal cruise of six month, I don't recall Byrd, or any other democrat, saying anything about any
of Clinton's photo ops.

"pretty, pretty" and "wrong" are frequently heard sound bites originating from the byrd-meister himself on the Sean Hannity Radio show when that particular subject is discussed.

I'm not sure, but I'd imagine that the sound bites are available on the internet:)

I'm sorry, but I think that his past (?) membership in that organization speaks VOLUMES about his character. He was not a kid when he willingly joined -- and became a recruiter -- for what was, essentially, a terrorist organization.

And the fact that he *insists* on being treated as some sort of moral authority worthy of respect and deference is appalling, as well as undeserved.

What is not "factual" about history, the un-deconstructed kind anyway?

This sitting senator is a former member of one of the most vile, hateful, racist organizations ever to have existed in this country.....and that is a historical fact.
