Can I send this thread in an e-mail to the white house?
I think the President needs to listen.

Does the AWB Extension hit the Senate today?

Cool...just in time for John Lott.
To: CounterCounterCulture
Lott says he "backed into" the gun issue after teaching classes on crime. He thought some of his students would be interested in material on gun control, and was shocked by how bad the research was -- small samples, ignoring arrest and conviction rates and so on -- and decided he could do a better job.
Cool.

Lott points out as an example of anti-gun bias in the media, that when a gun is used to stop a crime -- even a crime that is well publicized -- that fact is rarely reported.

He mentions the shooter at the Appalachian Law School that was stopped by students who went to their cars to get guns. Two of 200 stories on the event even mentioned that they used guns to stop the attack.

Lott called up a number of reporters to see if they knew the facts, and if so, why they reported the event as they did. The reporters knew that the students used guns to subdue the attacker, yet systematically misinformed their readers. A Washington Post reporter told him that point was left out "due to space considerations."

Lott is now covering the dishonest statistics used to make it appear that large numbers of children are killed in gun accidents. The actual number of children under ten killed by guns in 1999 was 31. Only 6 cases were where the child shot him/herself or another child. Lott emphasizes that this is certainly tragic, but is hardly on the scale that is commonly believed.

Who's the handsome guy in the back seat?
I just tuned in. Hi AnnaZ! Hi Dio!
To: Interesting Times
Lott points out that the media completely suppresses the benefits of gun ownership, leaving people overwhelmed with anti-gun information and anecdotes.

To: Interesting Times
Lott thinks that if the truth about gun ownership -- that the benefits to society outweigh the costs -- becomes widely understood, that a "tipping effect" will occur in public attitudes towards guns and gun control laws.
