Feinstein to introduce "Assault Weapon Ban" renewal today.

People who want to keep assault weapons off the streets are divided over how best to extend the ban on those guns, which is set to expire two months before the 2004 elections.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., on Thursday intends to introduce an extension of the assault weapons ban that she helped enact in 1994. The Bush administration has announced its support for continuing the prohibition on military-style assault weapons.

Fitting that Feinswine uses Hitler's own propaganda in using the term "assault weapon".

This bill must be defeated. It makes a whole class of criminals out of ordinary gun owners like me. It bans types of rifles that have certain combinations of cosmetic features and bans the manufacter and sale of all gun magazines after 1994 with a capacity of more than ten rounds. Pistol magazines that hold ten rounds are generally more flimsy and don't work as good as the original ones. And now as a direct result of the "AWB" pocket and compact size handguns are becoming all the rage as you cannot buy new magazines that hold more than ten rounds anyways.

I'm sorry, I meant to say that it bans the manufactor and sale of all NEW (just made) magazines. Ones made after 1994 as they are "Law Enforcement Only" capacity.

The "for the children" and "on/off the streets" rhetoric has become so tiresome that I think even the diehard gun control freaks are trying to think of something new.

Feinstein unwittingly (is that redundant?) validates my purchasing decisions:

Everything I own has been deemed illegal by certain unconstitutional (IMHO) statutes in California.

The cities with the strictest laws always have the highest gun death rates. The honest urban citizens are like fish in a barrel.

The "Chief Moose & Friends" show during the DC sniper snipe hunt...
was a great example of assault rifle hysteria & fearmongering campaign tactics of the anti gun- anti constitution- anti liberty- pro libertine crowd..and their penchant for dishonest rhetoric..

Cant believe ole Di Fi blew that opportunity-to associate herself with the DC Sniper crowd-..shes a deseperate demoncrap in search of a "Holy" agenda....something to take the voters in CA's minds off their real problems and DiFi's complicity...
Of course DiFi is another of the CA elite who has a CCW permit that are nearly impossible to get....especially in her district..

If the repubs go along with this hysteria...well they deserve what the get vote wise...imo

The difference is in the definition of an assault weapon. The current law and Feinstein's bill cast a narrower net than does the proposal by House Democrats.

As usual, the perceived issue is the messenger instead of the sender. When is the last time that a politician defined a "criminal" instead of what a criminal used to perpetrate a crime?

Sheesh. Sorry folks! Today is turning out to be a busy day on the RKBA front.

With the looming battle over the 1994 AW law being renewed, I expect it will get busier as time goes on. No rest for the weary, I suppose...

Yes, but don't say it out of context or they'll come back at you with "well regulated".

"The right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

Funny, every other amendment where the wording is the same is undeniably an individual right and yet for some reason the second is always argued to be a collective right.

It's a power thing. It's about people wanting to gain power over your life, nothing more.

"In swing districts, suburban districts particularly, a lot of members are going to have to decide whether they want to be on the side of supporting the assault weapons ban or letting it expire," Sudbay said.

I think my tag line sums this up nicely.

I don't think it will be renewed, because it's not likely to ever reach George Shrubbery the III's desk. The Republicans will keep it in subcommittee and it will never reach the floor for a vote. Even then, it wouldn't have the votes to pass. Remember, it barely passed in 94'.

This is perfect. Let them write a 'new' assault weapons ban. It will have an even slimmer chance of passing than the renewel of the existing law. Plus, Bush is not committed to signing a 'new' law.

I know it won't reach his desk anyways, but if by some miracle it did, and he signed it I GUARANTEE YOU he will be a one term President.

And I'm already seriously considering voting for someone else after the Patriot Act and the fact that he was against arming pilots, do you think I would vote for him after he signed an AWB extension or signed a bill to make it permanent???

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

An unintended consequence of the ban. We now have much higher quality and more powerful pocket (CCW) guns available, and a nice variety of them as well.

I do. I don't want this country turning into the 4th reich or the union of american socialists, but when both choices suck bigtime, you have to vote for someone else. It's just that simple. I don't vote for candidates who support unconstitutional positions. I wish I could vote for Ron Paul....but I don't live in Texas.

The timing of the expiration of the bill is incredible, right before the 2004 election. This will put the bill front and center in a huge way.

And by then we may finally have a SCOTUS ruling on the 2nd Amd to push the arguement as well.

Thanks for the ping, Joe..

Incidentally, I have some info..FOX news this AM ran a short piece on Logan Int'l Airport in the Peoples Republic of MA.

It seems as if the police up there are getting MP5's and will be carrying them around the airport. (For the purposes of stopping terrorism).

If someone can locate a postable piece, it should be placed on here and bumped for the "Biggest Hypocracy of All Time".< sarcasm> See, I seem to recall somewhere, vaguely that MA had the strictest laws around regarding firearms (safety of course, for the chirrun), I wonder if H&K had to submit models for safety testing to the MA regime...Surely there just couldn't be a double standard??? </ sarcasm>

One wonders

If you really want to tick of Feinstein pick up a new Romanian SAR-1 7.62X39mm for $279.00. Looks just like an AK-47. Be sure to get some standard 30 round banana magazines for it as the anti's and leftist soccermom knobheads can't seem to recognize an AK (Automatic Kalishnakov) style rifle without those curved magazines inserted.
