yes...our sirens are going off...and there is one on the ground about 20 miles out from the city. Heading right for Yukon...and Mustang...OKC suburbs. We had hail about tennisball size in Yukon an hour or so ago. Now a tornado. Going to be a hairy ride.

You can see the hook eco plain as day on that one, it looks like it will go just north of the city from looking at that radar image. Im surprised they have the sirens going off already if the storm is still 20 miles out, i suppose they are a bit jumpy though considering their history.

no question..I have been through both. At least in the day...you can see them coming. At night...you can't...unless there is some pretty good lightening to back light it.

Why is it that people in the south dont have basements, is the water table high there? Everyone in Nebraska has one.

when they spot one...within about 15 to 20 miles...they will sound the sirens for one cycle...to alert everyone...then they will stop them until one is emminent. At least that has been the pattern in recent years. We have the best severe storm warning system in the world. Bar none.

just don't because of expense. And because of structural issues. We have so much clay content in our soil...it expands and contracts so much...most everyone with a basement has major problems...with water seepage, and other issues. Almost impossible to keep one from cracking up bad. During the hot summer...the clay drys out and contracts...and then in cool wet weather...it expands and that constant expansion and contraction reaks havoc on basements and slab foundations.

I havn't been able to distinguish the "hook" on a lot of these radar images that the weather man explains as being clearly visible. Is that the hook to the SW of the large red area?
BTW, here's an image I found that shows a dramatic example of a hook echo:

Does anyone have that URL to www.spc.noaa.gov or wherever it was that showed the current warnings? My sister is in Cincinnati, they had a severe thunderstorm warning earlier, with tornado warnings for Indiana just west of them. I'd like to check (but don't want to call her in case she's hunkered down in the basement).
Thanks.

Its the far left part of the storm, that kind of hooks down. That black and white example you posted has got to be one of the wierdest examples ive seem, definately a hook eco.
