A Few of FR's Finest..... ......Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders; tell a few jokes; learn a new word; write poetry; pray for those in need; and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. I can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001
So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!
And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

Thanks, Mixer!
1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar. 2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up. 3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit. 4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it. 5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me an FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

God Bless Our Military
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Below are names of some of our FReepers' loved ones who are serving our country. If you have someone you would like to add, please address a post to Billie; Daisyscarlett; Dansangel; Dutchess; Mama_Bear; and we will add their name to this list. As we pray for them, we pray also for all our nations leaders, and military personnel, and their families and friends. May God hold them close to His heart.
~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
We ask Lord, that You guide the leaders of our great country in their hour of decision. The burden that has been placed on their shoulders is overwhelming. We ask that with Your infinite wisdom You guide them gently to the right decisions.
Please give us the strength, Lord, to get through each difficult and devastating day that faces each of us and our country. Protect and guide our Military that are now being called to duty, strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Great story, Maggie.
Please give your living mothers a hug for me...
The hugs will have to wait til this summer when we head over the river and through the woods to visit. In the meantime, I'll be one of those folks jammin up the phone lines.

Good Morning to you both! Thank-you for sharing your thoughts, ((((Pippin)))). I, too, am blessed to still have my mother, but my beloved Grandmothers are with our Lord.
Thank-you for the graphic, ((((((nicmarlo))))))). I'm about to leave for the one and a half hour trip to see my daughter. This will be the last time we can visit her in Macon since she and my son-in-law are moving to VA Memorial Day weekend. :-(
Happy Day to you both!

A Letter To Mom, With Love
Dear Mom,
Seems as if it were just the other morning we had coffee together in the kitchen, easing into the day, that last morning together. I, of course, had no idea it was the very last time.
That night you and Daddy placed the boys and me on the plane to go to South Dakota, to a new chapter in our lives; and oh my, has it been an adventure!
Our letters were frequent, and the next year, I had a baby daughter. When we went from there to Fairbanks two months later, you always seemed to know when it was 3 days before pay day and the fellows from the unit had consumed our edibles, not realizing military pay limitations.
You'd taught me, though, about the fishes and the loaves - and just in case delivery of those was slow, you'd tuck those precious $5 bills in letters "to spend on myself"..:))
Although you went Home while I was perched on top of the world, you always have been there for me with your personification of love in this life....had conveyed without so many words one could succeed if you had self-respect (based on the Ten Commandments) and a sense of humor.
It didn't matter if I fell short of the mark - you always had a smile and an encouraging word. Anne and Carolyn and I were so blessed to have had you to love and guide us.
I'm at the other end of life now, and older than you were when you left.
Feeling often your presence and the power of your prayers, and Daddy's, you live on in me and in my children. I cannot thank you enough for the foundation you laid - the guidance when I stumbled - and always the love you gave us.
There is no sadness in remembering you, not physically visible on this day of honoring mothers.
As I do every year, I cannot order flowers to send you, so I plant them all over the yard to remind me of God's Creations, of which you are one of the most beautiful.
Spent much of yesterday doing that, Mom, and laughing, knowing you will overlook the weeds and spotted leaves on the three rose bushes (!) - that you will focus on the flowers that thrive and blossom, and know they are for you.
You taught me the spots and thorns are all a necessary part of growth, and to just keep trying - that the Master Gardener is always there to consult.
Thank you for being there for me all my life, even though you became a flower in His Garden - - one of the loveliest, I know.
Here is your favorite - not roses, but red carnations - -
To Mom, With Love - - -

That reminds me of my Granny's side yard and my Grandmomma's backyard. Granny had the most incredible green thumb - everything she grew flourished and was incredibly beautiful. All of us have a little of her green thumb - she taught us nothing grows without love.
