So he gathered up . . . his political capital, spent the whole bundle on dynamite, and blew the old policy to bits . . . leav[ing] little choice, going forward, but to put America on the side of Arab reform. . . . This is a breathtakingly bold undertaking. Everything might go wrong. But the crucial point to remember is that everything had already gone wrong. My hope is that Iran can find for itself a better government than either of these choices. Hope springs eternal. But who did they have the better chance with for that better government?
