Yep. More ignorance and the erroneous extrapolation that since Snoop is a rapper that all rap=Snoop, as you pointed out. Of course, the tendency to do this with black music is rather common where it is lacking with critiques of "white" music.

I do enjoy some of Snoops 'artistry' and the costumes and it looks like Nelly is doing much the same thing to crossover..

My favorite Weird Al song was back when he was just some gut sending in tapes to Dr. Demento

He did a take off on Queens “Another One Bites The Dust” called “Another One Rides The Bus”

....just him and his accordion ...." hey he's going to sit by youuuuuu!... another one rides the bus!"

Yeah. Shh. Don't let the cat out of the bag. Rap isn't virulently anti-woman, anti-US and anti-white. That's just what evil Freepers tell you! Shhh...

The cognitive dissonance of the gangster rap people (and the larger rap community as a whole) continues apace. As if metal or goth (being traditionally "white" music) don't have people stereotyping them.

"Serious," "hip-hop" and "artist" should NEVER be used in the same sentence. Exception: As an artist I realize what S**T hip-hop is to serious music.

And I "seriously" disagree with your statements.

XVIII Airborne Corp "HOOAH!" by the way.

Re: The movie UHF.

I saw an interview with Al, and he said that the whole idea for the movie was just a change to get with some friends and "be goofy!"

That's interesting because I never knew they had to get permission to do a song parody. I've heard a lot of them and I can't believe they got permission for some of them.

They need licensing rights for the music, since Al isn't into "stealing," like "Vanilla Ice" when he sampled Queen's "Under Pressure."

There was a huge blow-up over a misunderstanding between Al and Coolio, over Al's "Ahmish Paradise" song and video, where Al thought he had their permission, but Coolio later said that he had never given it.

To be honest, I believe that Al is a musical comedy genius, on a level with Victor Borge (not musicly, but far funnier), and in a lot of cases, I love his videos more than the original he parodies. Most artists also love what Al does. For instance, Michal Jackson was so in love with "Eat It," that he gave Al the props and set for the "Fat" video. Madonna appeared in Al's "Like a Surgeon" video, and Nirvanah was said to have loved "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

But Al isn't limited to parodies. He also does "genre parodies," where he takes on an entire style, rather than parodying a song or band, but he's also done some originals that are a hoot. Like "Gotta Boogie," the flip side to "Another One Rides the Bus" single. It's a heavy disco beat song, and the chorus goes, "Gotta boogie on my finger and I can't shake it off!"

Yankovic said Thursday. "It's very disappointing. This could have been my best video ever."

Must be modesty at work here.
Nothing could top his classic Mchael Jackson parody: "Fat"!

"All things being equal, I'd pit Name of the Game against anything Mozart ever wrote..."

That statement goes way beyond pathetic.

Not only the Roots but also Common and Jurassic 5 are good rap groups. Common wrote a song "Retrospect for Life" in which took anti-abortion stance that was very poetic. There are many rappers out there that do not talk about violence and jewerly, however they do not get play time on the radio or MTV like Nelly.

I just don't consider what Jigga, Snoop, Nelly, Ja Rule and Nas do as musicianship.

I give them credit for impoving themselves and being good samplers but they aren't musicians.

Missy and Busta have some artistry besides the 'bling bling' aspect of the music..the rest of it is just retread

That was exactly my reaction. Heck, Weird Al wanting to do one of your songs is a sign you've made it!

Wow, that's quite a boast. We'll see if Crystal Method tracks are being played 350 years from now. In fact, I think I'll start digging my hole for the time capsule right now.

p.s. Never met an Interlochen alumn that didn't think his sh!t didn't stink.
