That statement goes way beyond pathetic.
Funny....people keep making that type of statement but no one's been able to provide a musical basis for their belief.

Usually Al's stuff is pretty original, but, although inspired, 'Amish Paradise' is but a ripoff of
these guys.
Free samples too ...

Retread is right. I was listening to a r&b weekend, flashback type show and it seems that rap ripped off all the old beats!

You know, if you pulled yourself out of the cathartic throes of the composition of your second opus for piano (provided you have any strength in you) and looked around a bit, you would see regional orchestras in this country going the way of the dodo on a daily basis. It is due in no small part to people like you, with your black turtlenecks, bottles of european H2O (read: Atlanta tap water), your lattes and leather satchels of ancient manuscripts and texts, your snobbish attitude and your 50-deep stack of resumes you're so willing to leave at every outdoor cafe and coffee joint you frequent.
I can't tell you how many people I've run into in my journey as a musician that are just like you. Occasionally they are decent composers, occasionally they are good musicians, but they are always absolutely impossible to be around; real buzz-kills; absolutely no tact or the ability to let their talents speak for themselves. And I think they like it that way: you know, the whole "misunderstood, unwashed artist" thing. There's a reason orchestras are folding. It's because the product is unattractive, expensive, filled with posers like you unwilling to educate but only to further delineate the classes of the unblessed and the enlightened and shoving composers like Corigliano and Adams down their throat because "it's art, and it's good for you, damnit."
Hey, since YOU started this fury with a ridiculous troll, why don't YOU enlighten US (sparing us, of course, from using the lofty linguistics of the Interlochen elite) why you think this Crystal Meth or whatever, is musically superior to Mozart ? And see if you can refrain from any further name-dropping. I know many a Julliard grad selling insurance today.
I am waiting to be educated...

I came across a 1960s Mad Magazine book, which had a piece on teen pop stars. The observation was made that, with every passing generation, teen pop stars were becoming more and more 'primitive': From Rudy Vallee to Frank Sinatra to Elvis to the Beatles. Looking to the future (ie, our present), the last graphic frame showed a caveman.
They got that right.
By the way, your father was right about the Beatles, give or take a few years. Try quizzing some young people about Beatle trivia, and you'll see how much less popular than Jesus they've become.

On and on it goes. Talent is in the eye of the beholder. Give me a friggin' break!
They only instrument they "play" is their crotch or a turntable. Yeah, real talented.
They rip off parts of songs from actual artists. Stealing, yeah, that's talented.
Music is three things together: melody, harmony and rhythm.
Finally, look at who "hip-hop" appeals to. If you added up the collective IQs of ten hip-hop fans it wouldn't break 100.

correction to my correction ... they eventually DID use the Mark Knopfler on lead ... Weird Al's guitarist had perfectly recreated the guitar work, note by note, but even though Knopfler's version was "looser" from touring, they went with him on the video ...
more useless trivia ... LOL ... Michael Richards drops by on the commentary ... it's great ... also, the guy playing the steak-eating, terrorist-fighting Ghandi in "Ghandi II" is Jay Levey, director of "UHF" ...

Settle down or you'll mess your drawers....I never said hip hop artists were talented. I implied that those who worship their hip hop gods apparently think that they are talented.

Public Enemy's "Fear of a Black Planet" is a great album, start to finish.
